Program notes — love songs (after Daft Punk) is a full-length audiovisual experience for amplified ensemble, electronics and video. In a genre-crossing narrative between ambient and experimental music, granular remixes of Daft Punk’s album Discovery merge with fragments from William Shakespeare’s poem Venus & Adonis — a statement on the present state of love and a reflection on death – suspended between post-romantic longing and pop-cultural dissolution.

Back in the early 1990's I became deeply interested in astronomy and cosmology. I would spend  countless evenings at the university's observatory on the scopes and in the astronomy library.  However, as time passed my interest in space began to shift from scientific to philosophical. I no longer saw space as something to be measured and dissected. Instead, I saw and still see it as a beautiful mystery for me to ponder like my ancestors did before me. 

STARS

Four Piece Five combines the acoustic sounds of a jazz drum-set with electronic sounds triggered in Ableton Live via Max/MSP. All electronic sounds are triggered in real time via piezo mic pickups attached to each component of the drum-set. The piece is improvised within a pre-composed set structure of different timbers/arrangements of sounds and styles.
