As I complete the finishing touches, I'm very proud to announce my next album will be out in full this Friday!

Illuma Vespera is the progression of my previous Album and EPs, telling a slightly different story and carrying a different essence.

Illuma Vespera is meant to imply tones of the evening light, mystery, transition, and guidance through darkness and hidden worlds.

Inspired by some of the more elusive subgenres within dubstep, garage, and other bass-centric genres, Illuma Vespera is a 10-track album that explores a blend of spacious percussive subtleties and grooves, vintage sampling, warping soundscapes, cathartic/ethereal melodies, and gloomy, murky, often mysterious atmosphere.

"Schism" by TOOL has been one of my favorite pieces of music since I heard it the first time back when their album "Lateralus" came out in 2001. I was 17 at the time and TOOL's music resonated so much with my young self. It was mysterious, complicated yet flowing and it held so many details (some I still discover today).

My first attempt to create a re-interpretation of "Schism" started over a decade ago. Since then I made countless attempts, but I never felt that what I came up with did remotely any justice to the original. It wasn't until 2023 when I figured that it was okay for me to stick more to the original and that I wouldn't have to re-invent the wheel to pay homage to it. Even after so many failed attempts I still felt the urge to make my own version work. So I concentrated more on distilling the mood of the song and pick parts that I felt I could re-arrange to something that wouldn't need to be an 8-minute opus of a song.

As a main instrument I wanted to use my piano and make a real intimate recording of the basic chords to lead through the verses. I also decided that I want the piano to stay un-tuned for the recordings to keep these slightly drifting overtones. I recorded temporary vocals myself to have a guide for the overall arrangement. What pushed the instrumental to the next level was when Rabea started recording the cello lines I composed. I also asked her to feel free to add weird sounds, bends and bow-plays wherever she sees some space for it. What I got back was a great collection of stems to play with - little details that create this wonderful depth in the final song.

The last step of recording was vocals and I think I had to listen to the instrumental over 100 times to finally nail who I wanted to sing on it - but then it was absolutely clear that Laila Nysten was the spot-on choice to achieve the airy, angel-like vibe I was aiming for. Laila is a super talented singer and instrumentalist and she was part of the string quartets on my previous album Two Windows.

I'm super grateful for all the talented people that help me bring my ideas to reality. It was my first attempt on a cover and it bulked up a lot of weight over the years, but with how it turned out, I'm finally able to let go of it.

Last year, right after Christmas I made this edit.  Been waiting a whole year to upload it.  Not my usual vocal synth stuff...but don't worry that's coming.  This one was so beautiful and silent night is my favorite xmas song.  Mixing may not be on point, but I think it still works.
