Like a neo-psychedelic voyage, Kabius J opens your mind’s eye wide in wonderment at the soundscapes of the universe.

The duo delivers dynamic rhythms and driven psychedelic guitar melodies infused with atmospheric harmonies.
Sterling conjures up a bass groove and powerful lead vocals, whilst Dean lays down some quirky riffs and adds his own unique voice to the pandemonium.

Drawing on many springs of inspiration, Kabius J grew their musical roots in the funky stylings of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the epic scope of Pink Floyd and the entrancing sounds of Radiohead.

Although officially formed in 2009, the two personalities that combine to create Kabius J have been creating tunes since high school, almost 7 years ago.
Sterling and Dean honed their song writing skills over the years, before stumbling into the realm of home recording.
This development spurred the creation of Kabius J, and allowed the pair to create magical, mystical, musical fusion in a way that they had never been able to before.

The Australian duo has recently released their debut E.P “My World, Your Monsters” and is already planning their next release for 2013, with Live performances around the Newcastle area to follow.


Combining a long-time love of blues, rock, soul, and funk, Novocastrian guitarist-singer-songwriter, Tim Hickey, has hit the scene with his debut single, “Again”. The track was recorded at Spinlight Studio by engineer/producer Rhys Zacher and features some of Newcastle’s most notable musicians, including soul-melting harmonies by James Chatburn and some killer grooves by bassist, Klaye Sanders. “Again” is nothing less than a playful confession of admiration-from-a-distance set against the charisma of Hickey’s intuitively hooky guitar riffs. Meanwhile, the vocals bring to mind the rhythm-driven melodies of artists such as Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw and Tim Levinson (the Herd). In fact you could quite easily visualize the 23-year-old casually leaning against a doorframe, delivering the lines conversation-style, despite the seemingly contradictory passion of the lyrics. When asked about the inspiration behind the single, Hickey states, “Well, I didn't really write the song about a specific person. I guess I just pictured the perfect girl in my head, the type of girl that could ‘bring me to my knees’ and I thought about whether I felt adequate enough for a girl like that”. The bridge of the song only serves to heighten the free-wheeling atmosphere with the addition of catchy gang vocals (starring a group of friends that turned up to the studio to show support) interwoven with impromptu conversation and jokes (much like bar-chatter) and culminating into one of Hickey’s trademark, elevating solos. As a final reflection on the making of “Again”, Hickey gives a shout out to his co-collaborators and sums up the atmosphere of the track perfectly; “I think what made the recording work was the brilliant musicians that played on it; Klaye Sanders on bass, James Chatburn on Backing vocals and Tom Bofinger on drums. Before I went in I wanted to make sure it was going to a be a fun day with as little stress as possible, So I bought a case of Carlton and invited a group of boys to join me in the studio for the day. We had a blast and I think that came through in the recording”.
Debut single aside, the 23-year-old has already had a musically jam-packed year, graduating from a music degree at Avondale College and hitting the studio yet again, this time with long-time rock band-mates, Skyepoint, to record their debut album (set for release Sept 2013). Hickey’s diversity among genres only proves once again that music is definitely in-the-blood of this up-and-coming artist.

Dan Southward is an established Novacastrian artist soon to release his debut record "Water & Wine" on the 1st January 2017.

Born in Newcastle, Dan grew up writing folk diddles on his brothers nylon strung acoustic. Now playing on stages with the likes of Bob Evans, Dustin Tebbutt, James Thomson and The Strange Pilgrims, De'May, Nicholas Connors, Colin Jones and The Delta Revue with the list growing. 

He draws inspiration from artist such as James Taylor, Jonny Cash,  Mark Knophler, Bob Dylan, Justin Vernon and Tom Waits just to name a few.
