First up is "X40K", a very hard thrash metal song about highway fatality, an issue I'm very close to and working very hard to change. For the Disquiet Junto Project 0578, I accepted the challenge to write a song over the weekend for the Lunar New Year, Year of the Rabbit. My rabbit, Sally, was my muse until she passed away in September. I attempted to capture the frantic pace of her hops around the room, as well as the soothing calm when she would suddenly flop down for a nap.

Field recordings of a frog and a nuthatch, taken at a local park, compliment the insane use of a feedback pedal on the Korg. Inspired by the song promo from Disquiet Junto. (UPDATE: The Merlin bird ID app tells me this sound was not a frog, but a Nighthawk!)

The ambient buzz from 4//GhT (https://soundcloud.com/forelight/locrian-x-disquiet0591) was very clearly in the key of C Locrian. I added some typically Locrian metal riffs recorded initially with a piano sample but then moved into a combination of soft-synth/effects until it sounded sufficiently industrial.

Challenged to do something different from the way I always do it, I replaced the dotted-8th note delay pedal with the literal opposite--a reverse delay. Just to see if I could compose something musical with it. At 2:20 I brought in the "Edge-style" delay just to see what the contrast would be.
