Subverting compositional and design tropes each step of the way, the Zonra project has maintained a striking consistency in its escape from the norms of conventional electronic music. Straddled somewhere between the dance-centric sound of contemporary bass music producers and the aural experimentation developed by IDM pioneers, Jackson Hale achieves a stable balance between groove and intrigue with each subsequent release, moving that needle closer to either end whenever the need arises. In time-tested fashion, his latest LP is a work of beauty from every angle, and as such, The Rust is incredibly excited to premiere Time Is A Tool as our 61st label release.

Previous Zonra records have featured an amalgam of shredded synthesis, mean breakdowns, and carefully threaded melodic elements. Unsurprisingly, Hale flipped the script entirely for Time Is A Tool; The LP’s opening moments involve smooth harmonies egressing into smooth cadence, and that relationship carries on throughout each track. Choice waves of tension and release, told through the intentional splaying of tones and textures into glitched-out symphonies, creates a permeable catharsis within each fold of the record, slowly churning the listener towards the album’s zenith. Opting for slow, caressing tempos and chord phrases reminiscent of serene lullabies, the traditional throaty bass lines and hyper-compressed downbeats are put out to pasture in favor of a record filled to the brim with particularly intentional and resoundingly magical moments of introspection and rest. For those keen on finding their next sonic journey amidst a crowd with a dancefloor focus, Time Is A Tool is assuredly the album you’ve been searching for.

"Cirrus Sapiens" is intended to mean many things, which can be interpreted by the individual listener. It is the first new Skytree album since 11.11.11's, "Crystal Consciousness", and includes 12 tracks with a total runtime (depending on interface) of 55:55.

A mesmerizing journey through the boundless heavens—a sonic interpretation of the ancient concept that envisions the stars as part of a grand, cosmic tapestry. The track opens with ambient layers that stretch endlessly, evoking the vast, mysterious expanse of space. Glitchy nuances ripple through the soundscape, like distant signals from forgotten galaxies, while delicate piano notes cascade like stardust, connecting the listener to something fragile and profound. Twinkling tones and strange, otherworldly sounds emerge, conjuring the awe of gazing at the infinite sky. As the song progresses, it draws you deeper into its celestial rhythm, a poignant reminder of humanity’s small yet meaningful place in the universe.

I present my first ambient/downtempo journey mix that I've recorded and shared! Accompanying the changing of seasons quite nicely this mix is also great for early mornings, late night drives, and times of solitude.
This realm of music has had such a significant impact on my life and I hope the arrangement & flow of these selections can also evoke such an emotional response in the listener and provide a sense of solace, even if its just for a brief moment of time. Thank you for being here <3

Jazz-infused 140 bpm system music has been monopolizing our attention for some time now. Philadelphia-based producer/DJ backpack is obsessed with the music, too, and for the 28th installment of Rusted Rhythms he’s strung together a one-hour mix full of this emerging left field sound. He displays a discerning ear for selecting the sound and a strong hand for mixing it. Selections include tracks from Chord Marauders residents Jafu and Geode, as well as a buffet of selections from the innovative Smallprint Recordings imprint based in Brighton, UK. In addition to these top-of-class choices, Rusted Rhythms Vol. 28 offers perhaps the largest amount of original backpack music existing in one place to date. Each cut is weighty and impressive, including collaborations with other Philadelphia-based producers wiseyoungfool and 5AM which represents stylistic fusions. It’s not all system music, though. Stick around until the end to hear backpack round out the mix in style with tunes rooted in hip-hop, including one true classic.
