Expressing a musical venture that draws from the combined roots of IDM, house and techno, Mind Against are the Italian native but Berlin based project of Alessandro and Federico Fognini. Heavily affiliated with DJ Tennis’ revered Life and Death camp, the duo embody a sound that they say is “difficult to describe”, instead referring any attempts to define their sonic identity to the psychedelic hooks of 1980s soundtracks and dancefloor antics of Milan’s imperative parties. Currently in the midst of a European tour, the duo are about to stop off at our Charterhouse corner for the very first time when they join DJ Tennis, Clockwork and our main man, Terry Francis in Room Two. But before the aforementioned event, both Alessandro and Federico have kindly taken a few moments out of their busy schedule to tell us what they’ve been up to over the past few and deliver a new and exclusive promo mix along the way...

Following the January release of their celebrated second album, The Age of Fracture, CYMBALS close the year out with a limited edition 7" entitled What Eternity, featuring two new songs - 'Talk To Me' and 'Innocence'. Today Brooklyn Vegan are premiering 'Innocence'

The songs on What Eternity come to the wider world at almost the same time they did to the band – both tracks were recorded in September of this year, very soon after CYMBALS returned from their first US tour. Emboldened by the reception they received from audiences in cities thousands of miles from home, a concerted effort was made to harness the energy and enthusiasm of those US shows and to create something that reflected the band right now. Singer Jack describes some of the ideas behind 'Innocence':

"The song takes some inspiration from Etienne Daho's song "Sortir ce soir", and when playing it live I've started to just sing the chorus refrain from the Daho song over the outro instead of the English words. I hope it connects with some of the feelings associated with going out at night."

Both songs were produced by Dreamtrak and mixed by Dan Rejmer. Both songs are available to buy digitally today and the 7" will be available early in the new year.. Note to the collectors - 100 copies will be pressed on blue vinyl. Exactly one year to the day that The Age of Fracture was released, CYMBALS will be playing a headline show at the Waiting Room in London. The band will be playing new songs and also celebrating the release of What Eternity. Chicago's esteemed instrumental quartet Pelican are set to release a new EP on Southern Lord in the new year based around fresh reimaginings of 'The Cliff', a highlight from their most recent album, 2013's Forever Becoming, and one recently completed new song. Due out February 24 on 12” vinyl and digital formats, the four track EP includes remixes from Justin Broadrick (of Godflesh, Jesu), Aaron Harris and Bryant Clifford Meyer of ISIS/Palms, and, for only the second time in their fourteen year career, vocals.
 
Allen Epley (Shiner, The Life and Times) once again returns to the band’s fold to transform, in a complementary manner, the concept and overall outcome of what we have come to know as Pelican. No cheap juxtaposition, Epley’s seasoned voice is as broad and astonishingly capable on “The Cliff” as the members behind the music, a claim those who have listened to Epley’s contribution on “Final Breath” from 2009’s What We All Come To Need will attest to. Elsewhere on the record, Justin Broadrick and AH/BCM turn in fresh takes of the source material, feeling less like remixes than new compositions reworked from the original source. Rounding out the set is the previously unreleased song “The Wait”, a contemplative semi-acoustic simmer that builds to an explosion of cathartic distortion and melody in true Pelican fashion.

After a decade of writing, recording, or performing as multi-instrumentalist with Radiohead, David Bowie, Elton John, Sufjan Stevens, Grizzly Bear, The National, St. Vincent, and a batch of support tours with Rufus Wainwright, Alberta Cross, Duncan Sheik and Tempesst, Schwadron has completed a debut LP Electra, an EP Child of Fire, composed and produced a soundtrack for an immersive animation experience Particle Ink (Running at The Luxor in Las Vegas), and has teamed up with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear to co-produce a single for his most recently released LP, Invisible City. With a blend of acoustic, electronic and a touch of the cinematic, Sky White Tiger transforms any space into the Tiger Realm of the endless imagination.
