After a few slow weeks, we're finally getting back on pace with the third #WeeklyDope drop of the year. For the 84th installment, the artwork was dedicated to TDE's SiR and Dave East for releasing their new projects: #November and #Paranoia2.

On top of that, we also got a pair of tracks from Drake (because, Scary Hours), Lloyd Banks killed an AZ classic, and Skyzoo provided a "Baker's Dozen" set of bars. Alchemist and Evidence reunited as Step Brothers. Nipsey Hussle dropped a banger with YG. #Dreamville and #JetLife united as Cozz tapped Curren$y for new Effected single. Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins formed a group. Black Milk announced his first solo album in four years. On “Baker’s Dozen”, I wanted to explore the world I know, same as I always have throughout my career, but from the perspective of what once was, currently is, and probably will foreseeably be, by diving into what happens when things like gentrification take place in that world. The idea of desire and attainability, by all means, regardless of the changes around you. The muse for the record was D’angelo’s ‘Devil’s Pie’, which prompted me to bring in my brothers Apollo Brown and Raheem Devaughn, whom I’ve frequently worked with in the past. The energy they brought to the record was flawless. Vision fulfilled indeed.

There’s a science to Alchemist & Evidence naming themselves Stepbrothers, as the two literally grew up together, and along with a storied friendship, the two have also been sharing their musical collaborations with the world for over 20 years now. But, their joint Hip Hop efforts date back even further than that. That said, after decades of their ongoing collaborations, the two have indeed long found a chemistry, which can be witnessed in their first full-length project, the Step Brothers’ Lord Steppington from 2014. 

In promoting Lord Steppington, Alchemist and Ev shared stories about the recording process for the album, and those stories reveal the relaxed and natural element that brought these songs to life. As one might expect, in such a fertile ground for creativity there’s bound to be some additional treats laying around that don’t make the official album. Recorded during the same sessions as the album back in 2014, “Lay Some Treats On Us” is one such case.
