Having recently stirred up dance floors with ‘Work on This’ and ‘Sirens’ from Danism, Food Music returns with another quality release, this time delivered by Nick Olivetti.

Nick has been bubbling under for some years and is an experienced audio engineer who has used his skills to make a name for himself in both the house and tech house scenes worldwide. He’s released on a number of labels, earning him support from artists like Eats Everything, Annie Mac, Shadow Child, Justin Martin, Catz ‘n Dogz and many more.

With its stripped back punchy beat, ‘Love Sine’ is the perfect opener for the EP. Vocal chops and a delicate pad riff build up before tearing into a huge sub led drop. Already hailing early support from Rinse, ‘Love Sine’ is guaranteed peak time fodder.

On the flip is WTF. This track features a no messing about beat coupled with a roaring sub-line that hits hard on the drop. Modulated synth lines add sonic depth in the builds and the hypnotic pitched vocal loops keep the track moving throughout.

You can spot Jimmy Edgar's homegrown imprint from twenty paces -- someone at BR HQ genuinely peered at my screen and said, “bit of Ultramajic, eh?” while I was typing this. The warped club constructions falling off the label’s assembly line take many forms, but often serve as an aural reflection of that typically eye-popping artwork: synthetic, pneumatic, and kinda sleazy.

Chambray’s “Rub” flew the freak flag high all through the summer. Now, as a bonus on his Rub Remixes, we have a remix of deep cut “Untitled” by none other than Len Faki. The longstanding techno don remoulds the track into the kind of functional, weaponised tool that laid our Berlin space to waste back in April.

They say the best things come to those who wait. It’s been a year since Matador delivered the incredible Zoles EP but fever pitch anticipation from the techno community is rewarded not once but twice as Ireland’s global powerhouse delivers a slew of new productions that spills over into two packed EPs for Minus! The first wrapping up a stellar 2014 for the label and the second coming out as Spring starts to shine in March 2015.

It’s impossible to pick just one highlight from this 11 track odyssey of trademark Matador mind music. Just like a Matador live set, get locked into the first beat and follow the path right to the end. Enjoy the peaks and swirls and get lost within the beats. Road tested worldwide by the man himself and by Minus godfather Richie Hawtin, this package leaves nothing to chance on the dancefloor. As if this double EP couldn’t be better news for patient techno fans, word has it that there may well be more to follow from the Irish underground hero. Watch this space!

Tatsuya Kanamori goes by the name DJ Shufflemaster, a veteran driver for rolling hard-groove still going strong after three long decades. In his native Japan (around the time names like Takaaki Itoh and DJ Nobu were on the rise), his earliest ventures were closely tied to the work of Tokyo’s Subvoice, dynamic techno through and through. His arrival in Europe coincided with his 17 track debut album on Tresor Records, EXP (rereleased 2023), and proved his mettle as one of Tokyo’s best and brightest exports. Earmarked by talents like Ben Sims and Cari Lekebusch, those sounds became a staple for those in the know. 2014 saw his proprietor run label Shiki Kyokai kick into gear with a number of EPs, ruthless, iron-willed techno for the small hours, and a recent addition alongside Tensal, Pergo and Eduardo de la Calle has renewed his star for 2025 as well. Pluralistic and shrewd in their vision, his vaulting basslines flutter headlong into surging incarnations of the same wind he’s been riding since before the new millennium. With a spate of recent interest in the minimal styles of his starting decade, his work has found a new resonance among fans both at home and abroad. DJ Shufflemaster and his techno are keeping on rolling to the rhythm of his breakneck sounds. Slam returned to the famed Sub Club for their monthly residency in October 2004. Return To Mono aimed to balance Slam's heavier, more techno orientated night, Pressure @ The Arches, with a deeper, slower and more groove laden sound. 'The RTM Project' brings this sound out with the dense sandstone walls of the Sub Club to the dancefloors across the world.

'The Pimp Convention' is packed with the swinging percussion that Slam do so well. Winding around this rhythm is a hypnotic hook and swaggering vocal sample that adds a delicate touch of uneasy tension, while chest thumping sub bass underpins all. Slam are back in the House. 

'The Sides Collide' slows the tempo and darkens the groove. An underlying disco influence can be heard in the track, but is brought back down to the undergrowth by a super heavy bassline and creepy, pitched vocal.

Slam (aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle) are a tour de force on the global techno circuit. Their unique, six deck, back-to-back DJ performances have seen the duo play leading clubs and festivals across the world. They are renowned for both their experience and their powerful, contemporary sound. 

They are co-owners of Glasgow's Riverside Festival, and also host the legendary Maximum Pressure warehouse parties, which showcase the best emerging local talent alongside some of the most established names in international techno.

Their iconic Soma Records label boasts in excess of 600 releases, hosting Mcmillan and Meikle's own productions and many of today's most cutting-edge techno artists.

The last few years have seen some of the duo's most prolific studio output as they continue to innovate and keep things moving forward, most recently with the release of their experimental full length record Athenæum 101. In addition, Slam have also remixed tracks from the likes of Planetary Assault Systems, Clouds, Dax J, Damon Wild, Richie Hawtin, and Truncate, to name just a few. 

Slam also host one of Techno's most respected weekly podcasts, Slam Radio, which has now surpassed over 400 episodes. The show allows the duo to demonstrate their conviction to creating and promoting music and vibes that provide an antidote to the mainstream by inviting fellow artists from the vibrant Techno scene, from obscure names to current trailblazers.
