Everyone’s a victim of some shit these days
Lost in their addiction or latest malaise
Or some new craze I’m amazed our days ain’t hazier than this
It seems to me our dreams are broken
Tragic scenes ain’t left unspoken
They’re cracked open in the hoping
other folk can find the bliss
How has it come to this 
But when that like lights on 
It doesn’t feel so wrong 
So I guess I’m gonna have to join the wrong song club
And spill my guts
But that’s the way we’re programmed 
Put the shit aside I’m guessing no man really can decide if it’s really wrong or right any time of day or any time of night

Well  I’m confused about the modern world, am I hero or villain?
Will the things my daddy taught me leave me in a cell just chilling
Well I’m willing to accept the change as long as daddy gets the blame
Cos I don’t even like the name he gave me
Now I don’t deal with stress that well
It should be daddy in this cell
And if he really loved me then he’d save me
I think that’s the size of this modern life , it’s never at my door
And I feign surprise at all the new lies I swear he’s heard before
Daddy tell em , tell em quick , tell em where you heard that shit
Before they nail my nutsacks to the floor
And I’m only 44
Could you please tell em for me that it’s been your reflected glory that I’ve been far too busy basking in
And from your hearts repository maybe rewrite my history
Tell em how much mummy loved her gin
So come on daddy step up and take the blame 
Don’t it break your heart to see me crying again

Sentenced without Trial (A poem by Bill Stapleton)

The executioner has come to cut thee down.
I know not for what crime.
The human race needs living space
And you have little time.

No counsel for your defence
No witness to your beauty
No guardian of your civil rights
It matters not - you're guilty!

Where are the lovers you shaded
When summer hearts were wed
Speak now for your leafy friend
Before his life is shed

Did no one see you in Springtime
When your buds were awake in bloom
Did no one pass last Autumn
On your golden carpet, strewn

Why don't you run away?
The humans are coming fast
Don't just stand there and be acquired
Your security is past

Dumb innocence give me your seed
And let me away to sow
In some undeveloped land
Where the crocuses can grow.

23 February 1975
Bill says, " A considerable time had lapsed since I had written any poetry probably due to the shock of my heart attack. In fact I was not sure whether I could still do so. It was a great comfort to me therefore to achieve this poem after an elapse of nearly five years.
The theme of civil rights comes from the northern troubles. I got the idea while out for a walk around Silverpine, the lovely little roads now sadly changed by housing development. Many lovely old trees cut down while others await their fate with 'Security' and 'Acquired' boards ignominiously nailed to them.
The last verse is a lesson on how we can co-operate to save the situation by planting a new tree"

Bill lived for nine more years after writing those words. It's interesting how the health shock effected his creativity and so nice he re-found it. Maybe a nice reminder to use our time well 🔆


I really love the third stanza. "Where are the lovers you shaded?..." Bill is looking at these condemned trees and wondering about the beautiful unconditional love it showed to people who are now no where to be seen when the trees need them. For me this wraps up what I've learned and had confirmed from Papa's poetry. Humans use the planet but get lost in our own pleasure and forget about what actually keeps us alive and what makes this such a wonderful planet to be on and that we do get to share. We share it with all the trees and eachother. We are however the only ones with either the intelligence to save it from ourselves or stay blinded and condemn it like these trees were condemned to their doom. Thanks Papa


This in my opinion is why laws against single use plastics and similar environmental saviours are so important. When idiosy decides to reverse them on a whim and because of only economics the indifference grows collectively and we lose our focus on the tree and the system as a whole. We then also forget that in focusing on the welfare of the tree, we focus on our own welfare. It's easy to forget this when we don't experience a direct relatable suffering however compassion towards the system still has our answers to a smoother future along side our dear tree friends 🫛

Just a shitty little ditty for no reason whatsoever 

Well as soon as sight restores my eyes
I get out of the bed after several tries
A quick crack of the blind to check the skies 
I must be outta my mind , there’s never no surprise 
But I’m alive i suppose 
Although I thrive as a ghost 
I’m just surviving at most
Confusing highness with hope
But I ain’t claiming I’m broke
When every days the same joke
It’s just the way that I cope
Turning brain cells to smoke 


And now my bowels are made of paper towels and hatred for my sinning 
I’m quite upset I haven’t fixed them yet , but if that’s the price then im winning
And I’m willing to continue on

That withered off there for a while
I’ll promise you I’ll never use
Computers to replace the muse 
I’ll never judge the folk that do 
But subterfuge is like super glue
It sticks like shit and makes a mess 
And never hits like Dylan’s best
This was supposed to be a protest song

It’s just another mostly hopeless one 
The kind that hits the Holy Ghost in one
And writ in shifts between the blunts and bongs
I’ll probably quit now that the goings gone
