Following up from 2017’s “Tribute To Eddie EP”, a tribute to the late great Eddie Kendricks of The Temptations, Lorca returns with the “Tribute To Larry” EP on a similar tip.

Larry Levan was known for his decade long stint as resident at the legendary Paradise Garage in New York during the 80s. He has since become known as the prototype for modern dance music DJs. His sets were well known for ushering in an electronic, post-disco sound that presaged the ascendance of house music.

It is this sound and era that influences the music of this EP. Taking inspiration from tracks Larry would regularly play in his sets, Lorca brings them in to the now, bringing new life to 2 classic disco/motown cuts that would regularly send the dance floor into a frenzy.

“Larry’s Bomb” takes chops from Dee Dee Bridgewater’s fervent “Bad For Me” taking key elements from an epic 8 minute builder and making them work in a classic four to the floor format. “Look What You Do” follows in a similar fashion but this time loops the belting vocal intro of a Barber Holloway classic under rolling kicks, claps, live guitar and cowbells.

With his second full EP on Will Saul's Aus Music label, Damiano von Erckert rings in a housey summer with a partly imaginated vision of opened clubs and a reality that mostly belies these expectations. However, DvE's latest three tracker Pete is meant to be for the floors – as the artist himself visualized this surrounding when producing the tracks – and is dedicated to all those people filling the latter with joy and happiness. The EP's title track Pete is an uplifting almost mental or cosmic House take, which has a tremendous and intriguing groove which is later on in the track even more supported by a vocal that it has the momentum on its side. After his remix for Cinthie's City Lights, Pete (maybe a shout out to Mr. Tong?) itself musically follows in the steps of the artist's contribution Hideaway to the Live At Robert Johnson compilation Lifesaver Vol. 4, which was out at the end of last year – just with a slightly more dreamy and summer-ish note and probably Damiano's gift to a clear blue sky.

Emotional Rescue starts a series of reissues from the Caribbean that will move
minds and feet in equal measure. First up is the mento / ska star Laurel Aitken,
here turning out 2 killer disco reggae jams with the crazily-sought after Sexy
Boogie and a re-edit of Hoochie Coochie Man.

Born in Cuba in 1927, growing up in Jamaica before moving to London in 1960, Laurel Aitken is rightly remembered for the breadth of his musical styles and career, from stand out calypso and mento to killer ska releases for the likes of Blue Beat and on to all forms of reggae.  

Tucked away in a cannon of literally hundreds of Aitken’s recordings is this one off release, the 1978 disco inflicted Hoochie Choochie Man 12”, with the killer Sexy Boogie on the flip.   Long a word of mouth for both reggae and the more leftfield disco diggers, prices have seen recent copies go for well over 3 figure sums.   

All fully licensed and remastered for reissue, here Sexy Boogie is moved to be the rightful main cut.   Some 7 minutes of rolling, twisted disco reggae, with chop guitar, stabbed piano, an essential and relentless (wonky) groove, plus Laurel’s trademark silk tones, here used as a mantra for the dancefloor.  

Now moved to the B side, Hoochie Choochie Man is handed over to Soft Rocks main man Piers Harrison for his editing expertise.   Scapel in hand, the  (oft annoying) vocals are cut to allow the flanged guitar, hammond keys and drum and bass rhythm to just swing and ride to distraction.

THE MOLE is back on Slices Of Life with 3 new tracks and 3 different views on the house music of these days.

Two years after "Hang In There Fry Guy" (SOL4) Colin de la Plante continues his collaboration with Slices Of Life. The Canadian producer and DJ is very well-known for his love for a wide range of music, which is reflected in his inspiring DJ and live sets. Though his favour for soulful music always shines through in all his productions, it is most evident in the edits of his "7 Inches of Love" series as well as in the trippy excursions on his own imprint "Maybe Tomorrow".

Accordingly, the 3 new tracks for Slices Of Life offers an exciting insight into various musical worlds of Colin de la Plante. "Inhuman" surprises with a higher bpm rate than you might expect from The Mole, but the 8-minute track breathes a warm and humorous funk and at the same time twinkles mischievous from the dancefloor. Almost in contradiction to the A side, "Another One of Those Nights" offers a deep and almost melancholic view on the night and its various side effects. And finally, "Hot Tea Dog Man" links perfectly to "Now I Understand" from SOL4: A hypnotic beat that concentrates on the essentials and a few well set elements that carry the track wonderfully and endlessly.

But experience the words of the master himself:
"I did hear recently that there were 12 million pigs in Holland, compared to 17 million humans ..   That's a lot of pigs... and pig meat is in everything... like some wines ... in the production of wine, gelatine can be used as a clarifying agent. The gelatine reacts with the tannins and bitter substances and absorbs cloudy elements that can then be separated from the drink... but pigs didn't really have much to do with this record... "

Every minute we are listening to music we are sharing a few specific moments of the musician´s life.
Our most beloved pieces of music are usually more than just the sum of beats, chords and notes: they also reflect on a period in the life of its producer. In addition to the musical experience each work also contains current life situations, memories and future expectations, some included intentionally, some unconsciously. 

Somehow it doesn't seem appropriate to put these SLICES OF LIFE only onto a hard drive amongst hundreds and thousands of imageless files, fearing that the next crash will delete and destroy everything. This is why instead of watching a list of track titles on a screen there are still so many music lovers who prefer to hold the result of all these hours of work and musical commitment in their hands as timeless documents printed onto vinyl. 

Therefore  Slices Of Life is featuring vinyl as preferred media for deep, warm sounding, funky and diverse club music.
