Well here's an interesting one! 'Last Forever' centres around a couple of lyrical couplets that are lifted straight from Rod Stewart's early 80s hit 'Baby Jane', and I've spent the last few days trying to work out whether it's been re-sung or is just a sample that's been fed through the FX mangle several times over. Eventually came down on the side of the former, but you can never be sure in these days of advanced studio wizardry... anyway, provenance aside, 'Last Forever' ends up as a plenty playable, 80s-leaning nu-disco oddity that's served up in fairly self-explanatory Edit, Extended and Dub flavas.

This is the third installment in the Local Sugar Diggers Series from Scruniversal in which old and rare records from the label head's friend's collections get reworked and edited. This one is a collab between ScruScru and an equally passionate digger from Cyprus known as Dwaal. Both tunes offer quite different looks but with great results. The first is the steamy and loose-limbed 'Destination? Funk!' with its squelchy bass and neat guitar riffs, while the flipside is a super deep and lush downtempo jam, 'Camelot Chill'. This one has romantic sax notes and gentle grooves with jazzy keys finishing it in style.

If you're a fan of DJ Supermarkt's 'Too Slow To Disco' series you'll want to to check for this new three-tracker from Ben Jamin immediately, because the Liverpool-based producer - who's racked up releases on the likes of Hot Gorilla, Discoholics Anonymous, Hot Digits and, yes, Too Slow To Disco - captures that mid-70s yacht rock and Quiet Storm soul vibe perfectly. The title track is a sleek, sophisticated slow jam with jazzy overtones - if you'd told this writer it was a long-lost Captain & Tenille cut, I'd have believed you! - while 'Destiny' treads a more straight-up disco path and 'I'm Dancing' drops down into a low-slung funk groove, but you'll have to pick your own standout here... all three are so good that picking a favourite seems a tad redundant!
