Internationally renowned Armada Music has begun broadcasting a brand new radio program called ‘Armada Night Radio’, showcasing the very best music from the label with weekly guest mixes from the Armada talent roster and some of the world’s biggest DJs. The all-inclusive format will span a broad spectrum of genres, ranging from deep and tech house to trance and progressive, and everything in between. The new concept marks the first Armada-branded radio show to highlight the expansive list of genres now included under the industry-leading record label.

Armada Night Radio 015 (Matisse & Sadko Guest Mix)

The tune itself is a shift of sorts, finding Commodo stepping away from the dubstep sounds that made him and trying out its sonic brethren, grime. "There has been a big resurgence in grime music being made these past couple of years, some of it emulating classic sounds and appealing to nostalgia, some of it updating the style and bringing it to new places," Commodo tells THUMP. "Being a die-hard FL Studio user ever since I started producing, Grime beats were inevitably the first thing I made - and now felt like an appropriate time to reach out and try a vocal track…I didn’t really have any interest in referencing the production styles of the early 2000’s, I felt much more comfortable doing something that fits with where I’m at right now."

Simon Green aka Bonobo returns with one of the key cuts from his forthcoming album, 'Black Sands'. Drawing as much on the rhythms of two-step as the lush soundscapes for which he’s best known, 'Eyesdown' also features a remarkable vocal from Andreya Triana and enough fuzzed-out sub-bass for a binful of dubsteppers. Classic and contemporary, melancholy and exhilarating all at once, 'Eyesdown' sounds like the kind of record Massive Attack could be making if they were starting out now.

Remix duties are taken care of by Floating Points and Warrior One. Floating Points got his break at London’s renowned CDR Sessions a couple of years back. Since then his re-edits have been picked up and championed by the likes of Gilles P and Joy Orbison. Here, he stretches the original out into a broken ballad, the vocals increasingly disembodied, the keyboards playing robot soul. Warrior One, meanwhile, give it some of their trademark ravement vibrations. Whilst Appleblim & Komonazmu do a dubbed out warm minimal version.

It’s the orignal, though, that will keep drawing the listener back – strange, beatufiul, heartfelt and memorable, 'Eyesdown' is a key staging post in Green’s continuing, remarkable musical development.
