Celeste, the second compilation from Safar, is a first/one of a kind project fusing the concepts of space and time. 

The boundaries of experimentation were hurled open this time to put across a pallet of pure(unadulterated) expression. Much like earlier, we selected (decided on) one picture from a collection of images, that would guide the overarching theme of the project. Each member offered 2 samples that captured the mood/emotion of the picture into a shared sample pool, which served as the starting point of all tracks. But unlike last time, instead of riding the constant pulse of 4/4, we got weird with our time signatures. Multiple odd time signatures were chosen and assigned to members randomly, to equal amounts of joy and dismay - all in the spirit of play and fun. We gave ourselves 2 months to audit the samples from the pool and create the tracks. The result is an eclectic mix of 16 sonic journeys(Safar) that hold a shared idea while at the same time being fluid in genres and time. Taking you for a planetary escapade to a brand new (unexplored) solar system where time and space intertwine with melodies.

◆【Stand On The Horizon】紹介文

現代音楽から電子音楽、またそれらに関わる現代アートや舞台音楽などを中心に幅広く活動を続ける作曲家Hiromu Yamaguchi、2013年に自身名義でSpeechからリリースされた1stアルバム『Chairs of Grass』以来となる、クラブサウンドを取り入れたUtzho名義での1stアルバム『Stand On The Horizon』が完成！

その経歴からも分かるように、音楽のみならずアート、また演劇やコンテンポラリーダンスなどを含む舞台といったジャンルとの関係も深く、それがサウンドデザインにおける繊細さやダイナミクスを、また要所で感じられるエキゾチックさや多国籍感を本アルバムから感じ取ることが出来る。

美しいメロディー展開と起伏に富んだリズムに広大な情景が目の前に広がるような感覚に陥るM2「Souvenir From Artificial Lake」。本作におけるリードトラックと言えるM4「Dancing Into The Tunnel」は、細かく刻まれたハイハットに導かれるように叩かれる疾走感あるリズムと優美なメロディーラインが渾然一体となり、まるで雄大なシベリア大陸を横断していかのような気分を味合える。タイトなビートに無国籍感漂うサウンドが魅力のM5「Running Without Sound」、また優しい風が吹き込むように奏でられる気持ちの良いギターなど叙情的なサウンドが軽やかなリズムと絡み展開されるM7「Wind From The Earth」をはじめ、全編が１つの物語のように描かれている様が特徴となっいる。

「通常遠く眺めるしかない地平線のうえに突然立たされてしまったような不思議な感覚をタイトルにしました。このアルバムが制作されたコロナ禍初期においての、歴史の裂け目に立っているような感覚です」と名付けられた本作『Stand On The Horizon』、多様な感覚に浸りながらじっくり聴いて欲しい魅惑のアルバムとして帰結している。
アートワークには写真家・カズキヒロ氏の作品を使用。


◆プロフィール  Utzho（Hiromu Yamaguchi）

大学在学時より現代音楽の作曲を始める。
西洋楽器での作品と並行して、薩摩琵琶をはじめ邦楽器を用いた作品を作曲。
国際現代琵琶楽会の演奏会などで作品を発表する。
2007年、凛アートプロジェクト主催の公演にテーマ作曲家として取り上げられ、サントリーホール小ホールにおいて「音楽展～作曲家・山口紘～」が開催される。
2010年、トーキョーワンダーサイト主催EXPERIMENTAL SOUND, ART & PERFORMANCE FESTIVALに、メディア・パフォーマンス作品「無数の終焉／終演」で入選。
大学学部卒業後、コンピューターを使用したElectronic Musicの作曲や即興演奏を始める。
2010年、アイルランドの電子音楽祭sonic vigilに電子音楽作品「The leaf was uprooted」を出品。
2011年より、blanClass（横浜）、explosion tokyo（西麻布）、空宇宙室（横浜）などの現代アートやコンテンポラリーダンスなどのパフォーマンスを中心としたアートプロジェクトにおいて作品発表やライブを行う。大学院芸術学研究科では、イタリアの現代作曲家ルイジ・ノーノ（Luigi Nono）を研究。また研究の一環としてノーノの作品「Post-Prae-Ludium per Donau」の日本初演をふくむレクチャーコンサートを開催。
2012年、explosion tokyoにおいて、サウンド・インスタレーション「供養する人間たち」を中心とした単独の展覧会を開催。また空宇宙室での実験音楽の定期公演企画「The Port Program N°8」を監修する。その他、演劇・コンテンポラリーダンス（Antikame?、singing dog、Rie Tashiro、水越朋）などの舞台音楽と音響を多数担当していく。
2013年からサウンドアーティストの中川敏光氏と共同で配信リリースとライブ企画を中心としたレーベルSpeechを主宰、Speechから1stアルバム「Chairs of Grass」を発表する。
2015年、Speech + explosion tokyo「House Beats - 攪拌する家」（現代アート・ライブ企画）に共同主催・出演。
2018年、AYATORI「身体の岸辺」(ダンス公演）音楽・インタラクティブシステムを、また Antikame? 「じくりじくりと蝕まれていく」（演劇）音楽・音響を担当する。以後、舞台音楽のサウンドトラックや自身の作品を多数配信リリース。
2021年4月、singing dog 「crash～M銀行人質事件～」（演劇）の音楽・音響を担当。
そして2021年9月、Utzho名義の1stアルバム「Stand on the Horizon」をPROGRESSIVE FOrMよりリリースする。

Slope Forms II unites totally different styles and artists. The compilation of five tracks is opened by R.Hz with ‘Flare’, which introduces us to a disturbing and deep atmosphere whipped by flashing chords. With 'Mountainrock', Biodub takes us out of the depths and takes us into an absorbent acoustic landscape full of sound nuances. In ‘Sleep Fight’, Ekodust weaves a complex and sinuous harmonic structure in crescendo, with a constant struggle between different sounds. Upwellings, with ’Last Seed’, presents us with a powerful bass and thick chords, constantly hammering our ears and inviting us to dance. The Insulance compilation closes with ‘Run’, a song where the percussion proposes a fast and sharp rhythm that sucks the energy out of us until we are exhausted. All songs have been mastered by Pheek.
