Nicolas Barnes’ Glory Shadow EP, the 140th release in the Mood Series, delivers a masterful blend of deep, heady textures and precise production. Across five tracks, Barnes crafts a blend that both captures and challenges the listener with its intricate rhythms and atmospheric layers.
The opening track, 'Fiber Square Ground', immediately drops you into an expansive atmosphere before a killer rhythm emerges. The addictive groove keeps the track grounded while chords swell and fade in a way that feels like a slow-motion sunrise. It’s an impressive opener that primes you for the emotional depth to follow. Next, 'Asked Question' ups the intensity with its airy, layered production. The chords are flighty, giving a sense of soaring through space. There’s an undeniable feeling of motion here, like shooting through the stratosphere—a perfect transition that sets up 'Glory Shadow'. This title track stands as the deepest offering on the EP. It’s hypnotic, drawing listeners into its gravitational pull with its minimal yet mesmerising textures. 'ReAsamble' is one of our favourites with a breathtaking and emotional melody. The chords ring out like shooting stars, creating a moment of reflection before the final track, 'Upset For Nothing'. This track is the calm after the storm, with an effortless groove.. Its flowing nature provides a satisfying conclusion, bringing balance to an EP that feels equally meditative and dynamic.
Overall, Glory Shadow is an exploration into depth, groove and emotion, with Barnes’ signature production that is as challenging as it is rewarding.

Taken aback by what had happened, Cat dragged himself toward the local junk dealers — the kind who bought anything without asking questions. The chances of finding the smart bracelet in piles and piles of used scrap were slim, but it was worth a shot while the trails were still fresh. He took a turn into an alley, came up to the gate, and rang the bell. A small eye-slot opened with a creak, followed by a gravelly voice:

— Keep moving. We’re not expecting anyone.
— Easy there, friend. I’m an intergalactic investigator on a high-priority case.
— Information isn’t free.
— Let me in and we’ll talk shop.

The bluff worked. The old man grinned and shut the door behind him. Inside, as Cat scanned the shelves suffocated with dust, he leaned in: “My partner is already sweeping the perimeter. You can either tell me what you know or enjoy a formal interrogation downtown.” A brief exchange revealed a list of local pickpockets, with names and addresses. The info came at a cost: one crisp hundred. Ahead lay a sleepless night and a long walk through the stink of the backstreets.

eth_mnd’s MMMXXV Time Dilation lives up to its name for Greyscale's 141st release of the Mood Series. The EP unfolds like a meditation on the distortion of time and perception, merging fast-moving atmospheres with grounded rhythms. South Africa's eth_mnd crafts a sonic landscape where temporal boundaries blur and dissolve, pulling the listener into a dense, contemplative space that feels suspended between ancient ritual and future unknown. Opening track 'Anomalous Dimention, Ancient Wisdom Of Ye' has layers of deep ambience. There is grit in its texture but also a strange serenity. The brisk sonic currents create motion, while the low tones anchor the experience in something heavier and more eternal. Field recordings of children playing rise unexpectedly through the haze, adding a human element rarely heard in this genre and contributing to the sense of memory drifting through altered time. 'Planetary Expanse, Reconfiguration Of Thy Essence' elevates the album’s introspective mood. A rising warm tone gradually spreads like light over a frozen landscape.
