Inspired by his decision to learn the piano during lockdown, 'What Is Jazz?' EP sees Ben Gomori return to his G. Markus moniker and the project's roots in the deeper end of deep house. Largely created over one quarantine-fuelled Bank Holiday weekend of stifling captivity, the EP focuses around dainty leitmotifs, with a melancholic mood running throughout. From the bossa nova beats and double bass glissandos of the title track to the hazy chords of 'Barbie Nine Jobs' (the direct translation of the Lithuanian for 'jack of all trades' and presumably implying 'master of none') and the warm ivory twinkles of 'Purple Saturn Day', the release continues a long-running tradition of house producers paying homage to its distant forefather.

Followed up by 'Caught Slippin'' on A2, a groovy, old school-rooted garage house cut completes the A side. The letter was long winded and told a tall tale of love. It was written upon delicate paper with carefully spelt ink. He read it not once but twice before taking in the meaning of the wording, it had the potential to change his life and alter the very face of time to come. The way it made him feel was prodound and abrupt, shocking yet sweet. He sipped from a tall glass as he folded over the last of it before placing it atop the glowing embers of the burining fire. The lights were turned off and he sighed.

PREMIERE: Etur Usheo - Perfect Love [theBasementDiscos]

Outplay was founded in 2012 by Dutch producer duo Fouk, otherwise known as Daniel Leseman & Junktion.  The label focuses on the deeper side of house and for their next release it’s a three track affair by the elusive and ever so mysterious Clive from accounts.
 
Number cruncher extra-ordinaire by day, brilliant music producer by night, Outplay are pretty amped to release this EP by the self proclaimed “regional tiddlywinks champion” and “all-round beige sky thinker” Clive.  Who says office workers are drones? Loitering around the coffee machine surely has had no bad effect on his creative juices.  
 
Clive first sent in a one track demo of “Bisou” and the label was blown away by the top notch production quality, feeling that it really stood out from anything else in their inbox.  Over the course of a year Outplay asked Clive to fill out an EP.  The end result is a record with three very strong tracks, each with its own character.  “Keep Movin” is perfect for big dance floors and filthy sweaty clubs.  The title track “The Trouble With Clive” has that big beefy garage effect going on.  The EP closes out with “Bisou” - a floaty warm stabby breaks affair with nods to the classic deep house sound.   Oh ….and I’m supposed to tell you that it’s Hawaiian shirt day on Friday!
