Coming in direct from Hackney, we have the honor of hosting British duo @Kassiansound for our next Mixed By. They’ve put together an insanely groovy mix of soulful, jazzy house for us and it’s just what you need to soundtrack your next dance. The duo comprised of Warren Cummings and Joe Danvers have been putting out belters on labels such as Phonica White, Shall Not Fade and Heist Recordings since 2019. Kassian’s career got off to a flying start, with the title track from their debut EP ‘The Premise’ garnering a track of the year nomination by Gilles Peterson. They’ve since put out several stellar EP’s with this years ‘Crush’ on Shall Not Fade being the most recent.

Kassian have been very busy in the studio, they’ve also done a thumping remix of Nebraska’s ‘Dip and Flip’ on the latest edition of @Heistrecordings ’s notorious Round Up series. ‘The Round Up Part VII’ (released on March 12th) is packed with slamming remixes from a huge cast of big house names.  We're glad to have them today for our new MIXED BY series.

To say that it's an honor to host a mix from this man, would be a gross understatement. The respect and love I have for not only KiSk, but his labels under the Apparel Music family tree, is unmatched in the scene. From the first time I heard this beautiful soul in music, I knew it was someone who I needed to pay close attention to. From his wildly successful label, Apparel Music, down to the artistic adventures of ManMan (the unmasked producer of Apparel Wax), I could tell that Giuseppe was extraordinary in every sense of the word. From the quality in his selections, down to the finite details in every one of his productions, I knew I was witnessing a true pioneer of sound and curation. Today I have the honor of returning the favor to the host of my first ever guest mix ❤ With every ounce of love I could muster, I present to you Selected Timbres 003 from one of my favorite humans. @aroop-roy has come from seemingly nowhere to become a major force in recent times, with his eclectic blend of disco, house and worldly flavours fusing brilliantly on smash releases like Talkin Bout Life and his sumptuous My Home EP on Lazy Days Recordings. But he’s been grinding for a minute, having first released in 2007, putting out a debut album in 2010 and a steady stream of 12”s since. It just goes to show that talent and persistence always wins in the end. His Monologues mix shows a producer in full swing, with some of his very tasty edits woven in along the way plus a preview of his upcoming Delusions Of Grandeur EP.

*How would you describe your sound?* 

I make a wide range of music with few genre barriers. A lot of my dancefloor releases blend organic and soulful sounds including african, Latin, jazz and funk music, with deeper elements of house and modern disco music. 

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* - 

My sound reflects my eclectic tastes. I grew up listening to everything from rock, pop and hip hop to soul, jazz and classical. Living in Brighton, I had access to a vibrant community of record stores and this together with radio also opened up the world of dance music. I've played in indie bands, funk bands and even a Jimi Hendrix covers band (I was indeed Jimi!). It would be impossible to make a comprehensive list of influences, but a few examples would include Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Radiohead, The Mizell Brothers, Azymuth. The radio shows of Gilles Peterson and Brighton hero Russ Dewbury were also hugely important in opening my ears even further.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

The mix is a collection of releases from the past few years right up to a few forthcoming cuts, combining original tracks, collaborations, reworks and a few edits. It represents the diversity of my output but also joins the dots between tracks that might initially seem to be very different to each other.
