Following their excellent album of Brazilian tinged soul and jazz, the Detroit-based Sol Set, led by John Beltran with John Arnold and Jeremy Ellis, return with an enviable collection of remixes. 

Among our favourites is the well named "Jazz Suite" mix by Spanish producer and DJ, Kiko Navarro, and we are delighted to share his remix of "AZTEC 2020" with you. 

Taking us on journey through deep, Afro Brazilian inspired house into uplifting jazz, Kiko's version more than holds it's own alongside remixes from the likes of broken beat pioneer Kaidi Tatham, "chill out" pioneer Chris Coco and Beltran and Arnold themselves.

One strong influence on Local Talk is of course jazz, in any shape or form. So on our new '-ish' compilation series we thought we begin here...Jazz-ish.

The compilation is full of personal favorite jams from Local Talk. But some tracks stand out a little extra. Kai Alce's melodic remix of Munk is a personal fave and a true beauty, Kaidi Tatham's mix of Coflo is proper UK jazz-fusion boogie (ish.), Dean Zepherin's 'Blue Moon' is a classy jazz-funk number and Ron Trent's remix of Kyoto Jazz Sextet is as deep-jazz as it gets.

@aroop-roy has come from seemingly nowhere to become a major force in recent times, with his eclectic blend of disco, house and worldly flavours fusing brilliantly on smash releases like Talkin Bout Life and his sumptuous My Home EP on Lazy Days Recordings. But he’s been grinding for a minute, having first released in 2007, putting out a debut album in 2010 and a steady stream of 12”s since. It just goes to show that talent and persistence always wins in the end. His Monologues mix shows a producer in full swing, with some of his very tasty edits woven in along the way plus a preview of his upcoming Delusions Of Grandeur EP.

*How would you describe your sound?* 

I make a wide range of music with few genre barriers. A lot of my dancefloor releases blend organic and soulful sounds including african, Latin, jazz and funk music, with deeper elements of house and modern disco music. 

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* - 

My sound reflects my eclectic tastes. I grew up listening to everything from rock, pop and hip hop to soul, jazz and classical. Living in Brighton, I had access to a vibrant community of record stores and this together with radio also opened up the world of dance music. I've played in indie bands, funk bands and even a Jimi Hendrix covers band (I was indeed Jimi!). It would be impossible to make a comprehensive list of influences, but a few examples would include Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Radiohead, The Mizell Brothers, Azymuth. The radio shows of Gilles Peterson and Brighton hero Russ Dewbury were also hugely important in opening my ears even further.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

The mix is a collection of releases from the past few years right up to a few forthcoming cuts, combining original tracks, collaborations, reworks and a few edits. It represents the diversity of my output but also joins the dots between tracks that might initially seem to be very different to each other.

M50: Aroop Roy

Daz-I-Kue was inspired to put together this track straight after Maya Angelou passed away some 5 years ago. As a tribute to the great icon had the idea of bringing together his favorite poem "Phenomenal Woman" and the sounds of Fela Kuti, which as musical concept fitted like a glove. Daz then shared it to the world on his SoundCloud page where he got overwhelming love with over 12,000 plays without promotion.

Daz-I-Kue has revisted the mix and has made it available for a limited period in honour of WOMEN'S MONTH on MARCH 8th (INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY). The net proceeds will go to GIRLS FOR GENDER EQUALITY based in NYC, who give amazing support for girls and women.
