After Jimmy Batt setting the bar very high with his “Retrospection” LP, OPIA Records invite two modern day innovators of dance floor energy to create their eleventh release. Taking up a side each on the record we have Rakya’s Idris Bena, and Slowlife affiliate, Paolo Mosca - a combination you never realised you needed. 

Bena kicks things off with his elastic grooves and futuristic melodies in “Miss K”, constantly evolving, a certain signature of his sought after sound in recent times. “Blood Moon” is another playful journey that leads you towards “Home”, a pacey and animated encounter. 

On the flip, Italian maestro, Paolo Mosca makes his mark with his precise and well executed productions. From a DJs point of view “Different Places” is a statement track, to catch the party in the moment, beautifully arranged with deep strings and a vibrant organ line. “Orion Trance” steers the ship in a different direction, melding together rubbery acid bass and euphoric synths. 

Two producers in their element, sitting strong on the evergreen OPIA imprint this summer.

This VA is inspired by the collective understanding and power of music as a universal language of emotions transcending beyond divisions. By bringing artists from different countries together, we aim to provide an answer to a world that is misaligned and seemingly lost its path. This is our statement for unity and against current division in society through love of the craft and global culture.

While music is one aspect of this we also combine it with our visual identity and love for art and design as an equally important part of spreading the message.

Even if this release only sparks 1 new conversation and serves as inspiration to do better, our goal is to raise awareness for global medical support through “Doctors without Borders” powered by music of this release. We aim to grow and compound this concept over time.

The unhurried rhythm of evolution.

Slow Life came into being in 2011 when an easygoing set of Spaniards & Italians crossed paths and coalesced in Berlin. The current collective consists of Laurine, Cecilio, S. Moreira, and Santi Uribe a.k.a. Indi Zone. The music they play, like the music they produce, is bound together by threads of luminosity and timelessness. 

Between innumerable hours in the studio, a knack for sourcing new talent, and thoughtful art direction, the label grew steadily and organically, and a signature Slow Life identity began to emerge. This led naturally to parties at their homebase in Hoppetosse and the globe-trotting showcases for which the group has become widely known. Ardent digging and long, mesmerizing DJ-sets are central to their craft; they fabricate a musical space for the audience to get lost in, the adventure going as far and deep as the collective imagination will allow. To put it simply: they know how to throw a party and make you feel right at home. 

Each release on the label invokes a timestamp of their intersections and environment, resulting in collaborations with Primary Perception, Basement Space, and Paolo Mosca, to name a few. Strains of jazz, breaks, and ambient music inflect Slow Life’s singular sound with a charismatic balance of discerning taste and approachability.

Slow Life is about taking time and the unhurried rhythm of evolution. Music as a celebration of music. No rush, no pretense, no limitations — only deep work, positive expression, and playful experimentation.
