Brad Rau has been performing music for over 20 years all over Boston, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, as a classical guitarist, rock guitarist, and rock drummer. Brad received a scholarship to attend New England Conservatory (NEC) and received a Master’s degree in 2015 with academic honors. At NEC, he studied classical guitar under Eliot Fisk who was the last pupil of Andres Segovia. Brad has performed in countless masterclasses with instructors including; Sharon Isbin, Andrew York and Jason Vieaux, all Grammy award-winning guitarists. Brad was recently a featured performer on Live WRTI Performance Studio. Brad’s personal learning methods have enabled him to surpass his competition memorizing over 8 hours of the most difficult repertoire for the classical guitar. Brad was a semi-finalist in the International Texas Guitar Competition of 2008. In addition to his performing career, Brad has mentored hundreds of students of all ages, styles, and levels. Many of Brad's students have gone on to develop their own music careers and teaching studios. Brad's unique teaching style combines music, physics, philosophy, and humor, making him a well-rounded instructor for a variety of students.

I visualize my music in a cinematic way, where sounds represent places, people and things that I have encountered in my life. I'm coming out of a phase where I wrote all loop-based material and I am also just learning how to compose music for the first time, with little formal training. So, I repeat myself often, though I am gradually improving. There are many surprising things that I'm discovering about myself and my music as I go. I played the drums for about ten years and have some knowledge of percussion. That is probably my strongest and weakest part of my composition, as sometimes it shines and other times I vamp out without any variation. I actually hear the variation, though I hold back for some kind of minimalistic point to make.


I am finding it difficult to find collaborators, though have really enjoyed talking to people and finding out more about their outside perspectives of myself. I will keep trying to collaborate... I love guitar music, I sometimes think I only write music to have a guitar player perform to it.
