All this fiction makes me nervous, turns out it was blood spilled on the canvas we admired just like some Rorschach painting. The film in your brain—it edits to remember, keeps the figure in the frame.  A sacrificial violence, all those passed over in silence then cast out with the blame. Lydmor - Helium High 

Lydmor (@lydmor) is maybe one of the most exciting and shimmering young musician, singer and songwriter on the nu pop circuit and is finally to release a brand new single ‘Helium High’.

Most recently she formed the duo Lydmor & Bon Homme together with Whomadewho’s Tomas Høffding and released the album ‘Seven Dreams Of Fire’ (hfn music). In addition to it Lydmor already released two solo albums, the lates being ‘Y’ (Sony).

Lydmor aka Jenny Rossander is also a brilliant live performer as proven at the explosive shows with Lydmor & Bon Homme, but also on several solo-tours around the world. She played for example in New York, Mexico City, Milan, London, Hamburg, Tokyo and Shanghai and has recently shown a special interest in Asia where she has been part of a tour and resided for a while.

Lydmor has an outstanding empathy and feeling that can be experienced in everything she’s involved in and on the new single she unfolds in a way we have not heard her before.

“‘Helium High’ is about something I have not written so much about before. It’s about being a woman. I need to show a version of femininity that we rarely see. The female anger and the female authority are deeply under-represented in modern society and therefore it may be obvious to forget what it looks like. It is much easier for a heterosexual man to “demand respect” than for women or other sexualities. But I think we internationally see that this is changing. And we are angry. And we take control.“

Lydmor recorded and produced ‘Helium High’ with the Copenhagen based production trio ‘Methena’ and is going to perform it live in January at the Eurosonic Festival 2018.

11 Everything Is Changing

Five unreleased tracks that have been kicking/laying around in various forms. Tracks 2 thru 5 were recorded during sessions for our debut album in late 2015 and 2016, but for whatever reason didn't make it onto the track listing or even thru the mixing stage. Tracks 2,3 and 4 have been played live many times as far back as 2014, track 5 has never been played before. Track 1 was written during 2016 when the album was taking shape and getting ready for release, but it was finally recorded in stages in 2017. It has been played at only twice, both times in 2017. Therefore we feel it has a connection to the era of Disquiet Living. These tracks form a release to represent the full spectrum of the band, with a focus on softer and less frenetic songs compared to the LP. Considering the current locations and feelings of the band members, Hesitation Tones is perhaps by default a farewell for now, and thus a gift based in gratitude to anyone who has supported us over the last few years and may be interested in hearing some of this musik recorded, or indeed at all. We hope you like it, thank you.

Freedom Fry - What Child Is This? (Greensleeves)

Flora Cash are a testament to the power of music bringing people together. The couple met on Soundcloud in 2012 looking for new music. Since then, Cole Randall (USA) and Shpresa Lleshaj (SWE) fell in love with each other’s sound which led to a musical and personal partnership spanning 5 years now. 

Back in April 2017, the duo released their album, Nothing Lasts Forever (And It’s Fine), via Icons Creating Evil Art. Their tracks “You’re Somebody Else’’ and “The Bad Boys’’ earned praise from Noisey, Paste, The Music Ninja, Earmilk, Interview Magazine and other tastemaker blogs. Mountain Bird and Kulture revamp these two melancholic acoustic tracks in the Retrospective remix pack.  

The original track “You’re Somebody Else’’ gently blends acoustic soundscapes and layers of atmospheric production hinting at Mt Wolf, Poliça, and Vogue Dots. Kulture transforms the song into a tropical house anthem; emphasizing the acoustic guitar and piano chords, while preserving Cole’s emotional vocals. 

“The Bad Boys’’ emphasizes melancholic vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar, creating a haunting melody fit for a crime drama like True Detective. Swedish electronic producer Adam Öhman, better known as Mountain Bird, sends the vocals echoing into a void until the drop unites airy synths with heavy beats and a tropical steel drum. His indie-electronica songs have gained traction on BBC Radio 6music, Radio X, Absolute Radio, Nordic By Nature and Spotify’s Top 100 Indie Tracks of 2016.

We want to rethink the concept of the ‘remix.’ For us, these tracks are not ‘re-mixed’ but totally ‘re-imagined’. Erased Tapes has the huge privilege of reissuing the original Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s last ever studio album Union Cafe including a first time vinyl edition — out now to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of founder Simon Jeffes’ passing in 1997.

It was 1972 in the South of France when Simon had an unfortunate experience with food poisoning which lead to a much more fortunate circumstance when a vivid dream, induced from his illness and depicting a dystopian future, conceived the Penguin Cafe; a charming place where solace, harmony, and the orchestra’s unique music could be found amidst brutal concrete structures and darkness. For the following 25 years, Simon carried out this vision bringing brightness into a world full of noise. Sadly, after his passing, the original orchestra disbanded, but the doors to this happy place reopened when his son Arthur decided to continue his father’s legacy under the name Penguin Cafe.

The continuation of the PCO began at London’s Union Chapel in 2007 when Arthur and the original musicians commemorated Simon 10 years after his death. Another 10 years forward, 2017 will see Penguin Cafe pay tribute to him once again at the Union Chapel on December 11th where they will perform Union Cafe in full – a union from all corners of this magical world.

Union Cafe was the fifth, and the last studio album by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It was initially released in 1993 merely on cassette and CD, and will now be given a new breath of life, for the first time available on vinyl, and another chance to reach old and new fans alike.

“Union Cafe was the last studio album recorded by the original Penguin Cafe Orchestra and marked a move towards a definitive English pastoral sound combined with larger string arrangements set against longer solo piano pieces. With this last album they got even closer to the PCO idea of squaring the circle of intellectually challenging modern music that is still actually beautiful. For me this has always been a contender as my favourite PCO album, and the fact that it never ended up on vinyl was more to do with the way things were in the early 90s, and chance rather than it being deliberate. So in that sense this release is righting an old wrong. The slow development of the pieces means that you can really get lost in them and vinyl is of course the perfect way to do that.” — Arthur Jeffes

Arthur very kindly gave access to the original Union Cafe painting that currently lives in his North London home studio, created by Arthur’s mother Emily Young and now photographed by Alex Kozobolis for this special reissue edition.
