Trushmix 198 - Alison Swing

‘For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

The stupid season approaches with much haste, Bublè is being defrosted as we speak, Mariah is on her way back to earth, the turkeys are scared and Santa is shitting himself. Don’t forget the good that comes with all of it, I.e time off work, being too full for days on end, and that first dip in a cold body of water on a hot day. Amongst all the chaos, it's very important to take some time to completely wind down and zone out. To help with such a thing we’re going to let Acid Chess Club aka Benji aka the mayor of Melbourne take the wheel and drive for the next 5 hours (no destination required). 

You ever meet someone and just be like “damn, this cat knows what’s up!” Well, that’s how I felt when I met Benji, and I'm certain I'm not alone. If/when some extraterrestrial beings finally come to this god-forsaken planet, I'm gonna vote to put Benji forward to be the first contact and show em around town. I reckon they’re not too far away after hearing this mix… A smile that’s better than a hug, and a hug that’s better than a tray of perfectly roasted potatoes. Music is his game, in all forms, and he knows it inside and out; Responsible for all types of conceptual avenues to enjoy music, including various jaunts into the hosting realm under the umbrella of Crate Mates, Chewin The Fat, and Tesselate, all whilst having a firm grip on the DJ’ing thing and playing in the band San Of The Rambutan (TIP!) A man of much know-how and he’s only getting started. 

Hmmmmmm, damn, where to start? It’d probably be quicker to go through the bases that aren’t covered in this masterpiece, but I won’t. This is a big mountain to climb, but a stunning one at that. The scenery, the serenity, the flora and the fauna are all beautifully captured. Completely chock full of picturesque backdrops and stunning saturations, it reminds me of an album of photo highlights from the best trip you’ve ever had, a soundtracked slide show if you will. Every picture is worth a thousand notes, each one adding to the overarching narrative. Benji has done this series justice tenfold, in doing so making me even prouder to present such a thing. So without further adieu, chuck on your Solomons, fill up your butter sessions water bottle, and go conquer this beast.

Monsters & Fairies - SAVE!
Is the new musical vehicle from Marc Nguyen Tan, aka Colder. On ‘Monsters And Fairies’ he steps aside as vocalist and collaborates with American poet and singer Craig Louis Higgins Jr. Craig contributed unsettling spoken word to the acclaimed dub-acid trax by Paranoid London (recording under his Mutado Pintado moniker). 

The world they have created together, with Craig recording in London and Marc in Spain, exists in a dream, suspended between the two locations. A creeping, creepy Lynchian-world, where acid-dub work-outs combine with stream-of-consciousness monologues to make one of the strangest records this side of Serge Gainsbourg’s reggae albums like ‘Aux Armes et cætera’. The record warps and shimmers as if seen through a heat haze, a confused existential daydream or a dark wave mirage.

Released on Parisian DJ Ivan Smagghe (It’s A Fine Line / Kill The DJ) Les Disques De La Mort label, SAVE! finds Marc operating in the experimental shadows, against the grain, much as Colder’s post-punk sound originally appeared in the context of the other dance music in 2003.
