Rocket Radio Espresso #031 w/ The Square Sun

New season of Espresso kicks in introducing @Milos, an Aussie DJ and music connoisseur with roots dating back to the early noughties. Previously, Miloš curated unforgettable parties, hosting local and global DJs, and co-ran Kyoku Records, a vinyl label supporting emerging underground house talent. Nowadays, he's on a global and online quest for rare grooves, both classic and contemporary, infusing his discoveries into his sets and mixes.
Dive in to this mesmerizing mid-tempo fusion of lesser-known '90s jams for an hour-long voyage through the vibrant sounds of Hip Hop, Street Soul, Downtempo, House and Kwaito.

Sometimes its blasphemous to take something so perfect and classic and try to change it but I’ve attempted it here with one of my all-time favorite songs. I first heard the original at the end of Mortal Kombat as a 12 year old haha. And this was probably the first time I ever heard a pure electronic dance track in my life! Well its all come full circle now haha. I’ve had the pads and vocals (from Opus III - Fine Day) on my HD for years but never could quite put together… until now! I hope I do justice to original and that you enjoy.

Orbital - Halcyon and On and On (Alcala Remix)

If you're an up-and-coming producer whose debut release is commanding the attention of Roman Flügel, Mano Le Tough and Bicep, it's safe to say you're doing something right. Hailing from Belfast, LOR is doing just that; his focus on hypnotic melodies and subtle experimentation gaining support from big names across the world of techno and underground electronica.

LOR's aforementioned debut release is in fact a 3-track set of remixes, on which the Irishman puts his spin on tracks from three very different musical heavyweights: Derrick Carter, Arthur Russell and Kraftwerk - the latter of which particularly peaked interests here at DT. Adapting the pioneering German band's distinctive sound to fit a more danceable framework, LOR crafts a haunting slice of techno that proves infinitely more exciting than the original to ears spoilt by the current sea of forward-thinking electronica.

Accompanying each track is a video also created by LOR. The producer has a penchant for building complex patterns from simple computer code, so he's knocked up entrancing clips that look halfway between MS-DOS and a Spirograph set. Check it out over on YouTube:

Berlin’s Cinthie launched her 803 Crystal Grooves imprint in 2018 and marked a new chapter for her own productions, gaining widespread recognition across the globe for her take on raw House, Techno and Disco. Now 2019 sees the label branch out off the back of its success with a sub-label entitled 803 Crystal Grooves Collective Cuts, as the name would suggest, a home for music from the friends and likeminded artists of the label founder.

S3A takes the lead on the package with ’92 Anthem (My Answer To Strahil)’, a fitting name for the composition which features an anthemic piano hook, heavily swung drums and spoken word vocals harkening back to the 90’s rave heyday. 9th House’s ‘Equinox’ follows with an amalgamation of bass and resonant synth arpeggios flowing in unison amongst crunchy, dynamic drums and airy strings.

KETTAMA’s ‘Smoke A Sec’ opens the flip-side, the Irish House stalwart delivers his classic style via robust drums, choppy stab sequences and hooky vocal work before Lobster Theremin’s Asquith completes the package with ‘Gurgle’, fusing bumpy breaks and ethereal chords with a weighty, elongated bass groove.

Slow Fire Disco Machine is the alias behind Andrea Carassai and Giacomo Fiorani. Their friendship behind the decks started as Polyphonic, then became quickly something different giving birth to Slow Fire Disco Machine, an entity exploring sounds from the world with no restriction of genre, with eyes (and ears) to groove and good vibes.
When they're not digging or djing, SFDM runs a YouTube Channel where  they upload their finds  & edits.
They also curate the "Espresso"  monthly show on Rocket Radio Milano, where they often invite friends from all over the world
