Slowly Rolling Camera is a new project that teams pianist-composer Dave Stapleton, producer Deri Roberts, vocalist-lyricist Dionne Bennett and drummer Elliot Bennett. It is proof positive that some of the most interesting work arises from a meeting of many minds. The result is music that has distinct echoes of the ‘invisible soundtracks’ of UK progressives Cinematic Orchestra and 4 Hero as well as the polychrome textures of maverick Scandinavian artists like Sigor Rós. Slowly Rolling Camera are purveyors of mysterious audio vignettes, moulded by a structural sophistication plugged straight into the vibrant emotional current of pop culture.

Steinway artist, Chad Lawson, decided Chopin needed a new introduction.  Along with violinist Judy Kang (Lady Gaga, Ryuichi Sakamoto) and cellist Rubin Kodheli (Kanye West, Norah Jones), Lawson has arranged ten Chopin works into a minimalist landscape.

It's a risk editing the "poet of the piano" but one that Chopin would be proud of.  

Taking 10 Chopin works, Lawson decided to scale the works down to a minimalist setting.  "I knew even if bare-bones, Chopin's works could still be as spellbinding as the original compositions we are so familiar with." says the pianist.  

Produced by Chad Lawson & Alejandro Clavijo. Mixed by Stephen Lee Price.  Mastered by Michael Graves of Osiris Studios (Atlanta, GA).

Where the Streets Lead is the new album from Slowly Rolling Camera, following on from their acclaimed 2018 album, Juniper. Colliding the worlds of jazz, trip-hop and cinematic soundscapes, their music blends strong melodies, big grooves and surprising turns of phrase, infused with expansive emotional gravitas. With this album, recorded throughout 2020, the music takes on a greater scale which includes an 8-piece string section and a list of world-class guests including Mark Lockheart, Jasper Høiby, Verneri Pohjola, Chris Potter and Sachal Vasandani, as well as the band’s regular guitarist Stuart McCallum.
