After touring Australia this year with @enschwayofficial & @daktylmusic I decided to buy a guitar and try to teach myself how to play. I’ve always been fascinated by the sound and I felt it would add a new element to how I create.

This song was the second time I tried to record something with the guitar and as I kept working, the song felt like an extension of Breathe. Something playful with a more mature sound that has similar emotion of the original.

I grew a lot this year being thrown into situations I didn’t expect and a lot of life events that you can never predict or prepare for. I spent the last half of the year throwing myself into anything that felt outside of my comfort zone - to grow not only as a musician but as an individual.

This is one of the last releases of the year but the first to show how that feeling has shaped the music I’m creating and who I’m becoming.

This was a song that went through a lot of changes - it was initially recorded for a half time kind of vibe and had a completely different style of production. I tried to flip it on its head and create a soundscape that was a little different from anything i’ve done. At the last minute, i recruited @brentonrulesto lay down the guitar work you hear in the track. that was the final touch the song needed ⚡️

After finding out this was Pauline's first session she brought up an idea she had made before coming over as something to start with. She had already written this song from her perspective talking about being nervous about a significant other and what they were doing behind her back.

We started in the afternoon and wrote out the entire first half of the song together - we stopped to get poké and came back to write the second half. I thought it could be cool to write the second half from the other perspective. Pauline suggested I sing the second half to bring that idea to life even more to which I definitely said no, but after a bit of convincing and Pauline telling me I sounded somewhat like Eden I said fuck it and started recording.

By 3am the song had been finished, front to back in just over 12 hours.

The contrast between both vocals and combining them to resolve the story as a duet makes this song special. I remember both of us listening to it multiple times a day after it was finished and both being ecstatic about it.

Pauline is such an incredible singer/songwriter but also producer - She's the majority of the reason I even sound half decent while singing and tons of other changes throughout the song that made it feel right. We we're swapping off my PC multiple times an hour going back and forth when either of us had an idea to add. We almost ended up losing the project at one point and named an audio channel "FLUT THIG" that ended up becoming the first name of the demo and the inside joke between the two of us.

Thank you for being a part of this EP and helping create a song that I will stand by forever. FLUT THIGGGGGGGG

Vincent & Pauline Herr ~ Can't Help Myself

sad alex came to record in my apartment and immediately had a chord progression in her head that ended up becoming the foundation for the song. We both sat and talked to learn about each other and found out we had many shared experiences in life - one being worried about someone you can't care for any longer.

As she wrote on the feeling and I kept producing and after recording the session was over. We both wanted to make something extremely close to home while also having enough energy to cry and dance at the same time. I tried a few separate ideas and eventually felt lost in the production because the right idea hadn't come within the first, second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth try. Over a month after recording, the final sound came through and completed the song.

This song is very personal to both of us because even though it speaks volume in production, the lyrics are real emotions we've both experienced in different capacities. sad alex is also one of the most talented musicians I've had the pleasure to work with and made me step up a lot of the time to try and keep up with how well she works. Her writing is impeccable and her ear is unmatched.

Thank you for working on this song together - as I'm listening again I'm brought back to the session and even the moments and emotion in my life that the song is written about.

Here For You (feat. sad alex)

Surprisingly enough, Alexa was the first person I had a session with for this EP, and this was the last song finished. We got to know each other fairly well and started writing the basic idea of the song up until the drop and then called the session.

Before going to bed that night I wrote a note with an idea of what I was hearing in my head. Within a couple of minutes the next morning, the first try at the idea worked perfectly and fit the song (which never really happens). I fleshed out the rest of the production the rest of the day and sent back.

We set up a session right before the EP was done to flesh out the second verse and Alexa changed the chorus melody which gave the song so much life and energy. A lot of tailoring the song to fit, replacing chops and constantly bouncing different ideas around - we finished and the song sounded complete.

Love, Alexa is one of the most interesting people I've had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know - her background and sound are one of one and come full circle with the way she writes and sings. There were moments while recording where I laid down with my eyes closed and just listened to her voice. Thank you for helping create this song and for being a part of the EP.

Hey Everyone,

Porter Robinson changed the way we look at making music. He’s a huge inspiration to both of us. ‘Say My Name’ was a record that we listened to nonstop when it came out. It was a record that really changed a lot for us individually. For me (Dylan) it was a huge part of the reason why I fell in love with dance music. And for me (Kyle) it was one of the first songs that got me into the house/complextro genre, something that heavily influences the music I make today. Without this record coming out things could have been different for us. With all that being said, we thought it would be a great idea to put our own spin on it and give it to you guys as a gift for everything you all have done for us. it was a very bright night in los angeles. we were in the studio with our friend kwesi to write new music. leo was jamming on the piano and kwesi recorded some ad-libs to spark some ideas. all of a sudden kwesi came up with the ‘calm me back down’-line that everyone instantly loved. we stayed up late all night and recorded the full song. “Back Down” was born. when we listen back to the track we can still feel the creative energy that was in the room that night. hope you’ll like it.
