The Oddness is the project of Melbourne producer and performer Warwick Ferguson. The sound of the Oddness is Downtempo yet energetic, with punchy tribal drums and huge bass lines wrapped around the long slow burning structures of progressive house.

The Oddness Launched his live set in 2018 and has since performed at some of Australia’s premium festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Let Them Eat Cake and ChiWowWah Town. The set is full of improvisation and can go anywhere from laidback and melancholy through to a chunky, driving gut punch. Recently he has been joined by Multi Instrumentalists Dylan Jarred and Timmus, performing as a 3-piece band.

His first release came in early 2018 on Uone’s label Beat & Path with a huge remix from Electronic music legend Adam Freeland, quickly followed his debut album ‘Culmination’ on Griff’s new imprint Corymbia Recordings. 2019/20 saw a string of releases and remixes for labels Pipe & Pochet, SolSelectas, Shango Records, LNDKHN and Sofa Beats, as well as remixing Satin Jackets huge hit Automatic for Eskimo Recordings.

A European tour was booked for 2020 including Boom, Noisily and Vibronica festivals, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation. This led to some serious studio time culminating in his second album ‘Observations as a Stranger’ out now on Beat & Path.

Wir waren uns einig das wir K.A.L.I nicht ohne das Turtur ziehen lassen können. Sie liebt und lebt den Bass, bewegt sich zwischen 110 und 127 BPM und zeigt uns das Rave, Yoga, Downtempo und Techno zusammen gehören.

TURTUR & FRIENDS #1 K.A.L.I

Was für ein Wochenende! 

Das Lichtalbenfestival 2021 war ein besonderer Moment für meine Freunde und mich. Tolle Location, klasse Leute, mega Glück mit dem Wetter.

Zum einen durfte ich dank olibrii und der tollen 60 Zoll Crew aus Hannover selbst spielen Samstag Nacht von 1:00-3:00 Uhr in einer cosy Lagerfeueratmosphäre beim Kiosk.
Zum anderen waren meine Homies Electrogecko und cLam genauso geflasht wie ich, mal wieder raus zu kommen nach dem Lockdownwahnsinn.
Und last but not least durfte ich einige Soundcloudbuddies persönlich kennen lernen, den jeweiligen Menschen dahinter quasi.

Ich freue mich, mit den sympathischen Leuten aus Kassel um Kiki Kokolores und Coordese abhängen und tanzen zu dürfen. (Kikis Set war übrigens der Killer und mein persönliches Highlight des ganzen Wochenendes.)
Fredaric und Marlin Helene von der Diskoflausch Crew waren auch da und ziemlich cool. Marlin Helene hat gleich zwei mal gerockt, was das Zeug hält.
Xayíde spielte wunderschön verträumt nach mir und entpuppte sich ebenfalls als supernett. Ich hoffe, ich habe niemanden vergessen, natürlich waren auch jede Menge für mich neue Leute da.

Rundum ein Erlebnis, wirklich ein gelungenes Festival. Ich habe mich selten so wie in einer großen Familie gefühlt. Und es hat so Spaß gemacht. Sonntags wurde es dann auch dank olibrii´s und baenj´s chanagang Auftritt einfach nur so absurd, dass wir uns spontan den Montag frei nehmen mussten.  HAMMER!

When dreams come true.... Or when you finally play in a Club in front of people you don't know. And then be brave enough to play much faster tunes than you used to play. What a night! I was on fire and celebrated each track I've played. Big THANKS to my "brother from another mother" TrickyJones for the B2B at the end of my Set. It made my evening perfect having him and my dear lovely Jasmin aka missjazy by my side. I am confident that this is just the beginning of a beautiful music-love-story :)

A very special treat reached me just after midnight today. Usually, Aka-Tapes podcasts are followed for days, meticulously analyzed before they go online, but in this case, I don't want to deprive anyone of this pearl of a diverse mix longer than necessary.

Lazy Hazy, the very talented creator of this almost 3-hour set, has told me that he has used many older tracks that he has wanted to record in a set for quite some time. Since he prefers to concentrate on live performance rather than making podcasts, it is a great pleasure for me that Aka-Tapes has just received this great set.

In this month’s Sofa Beat Records show you can hear a mix by HERRHAUSEN & TREINDL!

Laid-back euphoria and slow-motion ecstasy: The music of Herrhausen & Treindl comes with rather low BPM count, but with an extremely high catchiness and danceability. It was 2012 when the two of them met in a recording studio, back then still in search of the perfect sound for others. They quickly realized that at the end of their working days there was still a whole lot of creative energy left. Their first mutual sessions turned out to be extremely productive, their musical backgrounds turned out to be a great source of inspiration. Treindl used to play the drums, exploring rhythmic structures from Funk to Hip Hop and beyond, while Herrhausen was touring with a Ska combo as a young chap. Together they combine a slow movement approach with complex arrangements, creating a style of electronic music that takes festival and party dancefloors by storm with early morning sound as glorious as it gets!

Today marks the 47th anniversary of the Birth of Hip Hop (August 11, 1973), AKA National Hip-Hop Day.

For that, I’d love to pay respect to a revolutionary Music genre that played a big part in Music History by compiling a mix including some of my favorite underground hip-hop records from the 80’s and 90’s + 2 records from the early 2000’s.

I cannot emphasize enough the amount of love & respect I have for Hip-Hop Music. Let’s put it this way, if it wasn’t for Hip-Hop we wouldn’t have seen the revolution of vinyl mixing & its techniques which became ‘the’ way to keep the events/parties going back in the day. In other words, DJ’ing was born from Hip-Hop.   

Briefly tapping on Music genre history. Hip-Hop has had big influence in the development of Electronic Dance Music. In fact, House music is a derivative of Hip-Hop — That alone is an interesting topic of how it came to happen!

An hour.5 of hip-hop may be a tad bit for some. This mix would suit spaces that tend to have old school hip-hop played in the background frequently. Whether its bars, barber shops, retail stores, you name it. Not to forget all the hip-hop lovers.

Last but not least, this mix is my weeks incentive to help the one’s in need as it really reminds us of the prime art a race has created for us. Supporting both black lives matter to fight inequality & racism, as well as continue to help Lebanon. I hope others have done their part to help other souls ❤︎

hiptrohop goes old school (birth of hip-hop)

She always brings a smile, sharing the warmth of her heart with everyone in her surrounding. While she has travalled far and performed shows for many, what she loves most is to be united with her close ones and play a soundtrack to the ones dear to her. Over the years, Alma Linda (@alma_linda) has helped many arising artists taking their first steps, encouraging them to pursue their very own artistic path.. and through that, she encouraged herself to stay on hers. As we have shared many hours of joy with her, we are now delighted to share two hours of joy to you.. Enjoy!
