London-based DJ and producer Katie Wilkinson is a bird lover, no wonder she decided to call her brand-new music project… Birds. Exploring her New Wave, 80s Goth, Techno, Psychedelic, and Experimental influences, Katie has been delivering high-quality themes and drawing more and more attention through her solid releases on influential Indie Dance labels such as Emerald & Doreen, Ombra International, Samo, Inside Out, and now on NEIN Records with “Time”, a 4-track EP divided into two dark-as-hell originals and two dangerous remixes by our dear friends Alvee (FREEDL019) and Gegen Mann (SXDNS220).

Her music brings together acid basslines with post-punk style guitars and off-kilter vocals to create something refreshingly original. The successful formula has been responsible for extremely well-crafted retro-infused pieces. In sum: Music with attitude, that’s the best definition of Birds’ exquisite sonority.

Through the remix we were solicited to review/premiere, Alvee proved he is totally familiarized and comfortable dealing with the mesmerizing Post-Punk universe. His interpretation of “Feed The Void” kept the gloomy atmosphere of the original even after having spiced & speed up things a little bit. The Mexican virtuoso went from 100 to 121 BPM, properly twisted the vibrant acid layer, and added some badass guitar riffs that paired sublimely with the amazing vocals by the star of the hour. Kudos, Jungs!

Cosmo Vitelli presents MEDHEAD REMIXES a digital-only LP featuring remixes from his third album MEDHEAD, released on I’m a Cliché in 2022, which included five tracks created in collaboration with Dutch artist Truus de Groot.
 
Featuring 8 tracks plus an instrumental version, its release a year after MEDHEAD is an opportunity to close this chapter before the next one begins. It is also a reminder of the French producer’s love for reinterpretation, by playfully looking back on the album rather than being revisiting exhaustively.
 
Indeed, in addition to 2 remixes by Cosmo Vitelli himself, he asked producers he appreciates to pick a track of their own choice to remix, without obsessing on necessarily giving them a club dimension. His guests ended up exploring several atmospheres, with a varying ratio between ethereal and more dance-focused moods, sometimes combining both. 

It is always with excitement that Cosmo Vitelli remixes his tracks. Down The Hatch is given a “boogie dub” treatment, thanks to bubbling analog synths and old school drum machines, it is a catchy and funky exercise in less is more production. His remix of How Is It To Be You is an elegant exploration of disco-adjacent atmospheres and arrangements. It does a lot with just a handful of elements and functions as a kind of disco dub, simple from a distance and full of detail when closely listened to.

Andrei Rusu is one half of Romanian duo Khidja. His remixes of How Is It To Be You (one vocal version and one instrumental) are dancefloor-focused cuts, with a catchy vibe in part indebted to 80’s dance genres. Underneath the shiny veneer, ominous synths on the verge of dissonance hint at something darker, like the soundtrack of a forgotten giallo.
A long-time friend of Cosmo’s and a producer recognized for his mind-melting output that spans many genres, Krikor remixes 7 Foot Clown In My Bed. The remix sees Krikor in top dub form, with a 10-ton heavy beat, slow, and hallucinogenic. It’s impossible not to sway in slow motion while playing it.

Krokakai came to Cosmo’s attention following his debut release on Glasgow’s Insible, Inc. His version of Trichophilia blends a subdued post-punk approach with more modern production techniques. The result is ear catching and introspective, almost cinematic at times, while remaining danceable.



Up-and-coming producer DJ F16 Falcon, who released a handful of EPs on Notte Brigante and Association Fatale, revisits Down The Hatch. With a plodding, shuffled rhythm and a leftfield, almost IDM feel, this downtempo remix takes the track into a new, forward-thinking dimension.

Dali Muru & The Polyphonic Swarm, a project led by Enir Da, is behind one of Cosmo’s favourite album of 2022. So it was natural for him to ask the producer to contribute to this release, and he picked Patient Zero. Dub-infused, and ethereal but also focused on movement, this half-step version is captivating.

Froid Dub is a duo made up of Stéphane Bodin & François Marché, who previously recorded music together as Bosco at the turn of the century. For their first remix under this name, they deliver a langourously understated take on Just Like His Dad that strips the tune to its bare elements, for a dub as icy as they come.

Cosmo Vitelli will renew his collaboration with Truss de Groot in 2023 for a full album, and this year will also mark the return of his Bot’Ox duo with a new release.

After the successful launch of "Recuerdo Futuro" produced by Moisees and ZEA, both based in CDMX; we all decided to re-release it as an EP, now loaded with remixes and a new original. “Recuerdo Futuro “is a flash of the forgotten rave parties of the nineties, the nostalgia of a past that was not lived. For the second original “Ondas” it combines House, trance and some Indie vibes, as a result it’s a dancefloor killer.

Followed by the remixes, for the first remix we have one of the most talented producers in Mexico and founder of Duro together with Moisees, Theus Mago, arrives with a "Sexy" and quite groovy version. Followed by the Mexican star Mystery Affair, who lands with a very trance and acidic remix. Finally we have a new collaboration between Ludviq & Rina, with a darker and deeper remix, with hypnotic and mystical vocals, perfect to close the EP.

The Ep is  well-crafted offering some unique sound, while maintaining a cohesive theme and vibe. It's a testament to the creativity and collaboration, definitely one of our finest releases.

Collapsing new rhythms and industrial visions meet restless melodic vocals on Gateway, the debut album from San Francisco duo YANTRA on Swiss label Subject To Restrictions Discs. This isn't dance music, but you will dance to it. It isn't ritual music, but it will channel spirits.

The dreamer is still asleep. She awakens to heed the call. Curious downtempo drums, spartan and potent, animate the body. Running through the city, shadows dance on walls, and alluring voices, whispered, sung, and soaring, possess the mind. At the end of the path, gazing at the mirror's edge, she finds the source of the voice—and realizes it's her own.

YANTRA are artist-producer Yaniv de Ridder, also known by the alias YNV, and lyricist-vocalist-instrumentalist Janina Angel Bath. The pair have worked together for some time, beginning with YNV's 2021 LP Golden Hour Ritual. On Western Paradox, a YNV EP released last year on Subject To Restrictions Discs, Bath contributed vocals—and so YANTRA, the project and the concept, was born. Working together, the pair craft new forms of transcendent sound, timeless and familiar all at once.

Jimpster is back with his first full EP since Porchlight And
Rocking Chairs! With only a smattering of remixes for the likes of
Paxton Fettel, Detroit Swindle, Till Von Sein, Cajuu and S-Man and
original track Head Spin for the 200th Freerange double pack it’s
been a fairly quiet time studio-wise the last couple of years. All
that is about to change however with 2015 shaping up to be full of
new music in various shapes and forms and under different guises.
English Rose kicks off the fresh new Jimpster biz in fine style
with the most majestic of tracks, single-handedly announcing that
summer is officially here. A sense of anticipation pervades as the
chunkiest of disco breaks drive the track, hazy vocal pads
occasionally piercing the layers of spinning echoes. We’re thinking
DJ Gregory meets Walter Gibbons in a star-lit clearing of a lush
rainforest on some far-flung tropical island.
Up next we have Solitude, an afro-techno soundclash infused with
that trademark Jimpster sound where the devil is in the detail of
this beautifully subtle and rolling groove. Seven minutes thirty
seconds of complete bliss to get well and truly lost in!
Finally we have Drakkar Noir which once again attempts to hypnotize
you with a relentless old-school house groove and simple, drifting
synths. Distant vocals go in and out of focus as the track ebbs
and flows, finally deciding to call it a day after nearly nine
minutes but still manages to leave you wanting more.

Monoblok & PSLKTR do their debut on Play Pal delivering a brilliant EP, formed of two original cuts, both equally strong. 
Curses, one of the best artists out there, who takes the original 'Violence Assumée' and delivers impossible, making the track even more mental, retaining the darkness, beefing up the percussion and adding a drop that will turn any dancefloor upside down. A tried and tested winner.
