My career started in 2006 after listening to my friend called DJ Savage who played liquid drum and bass around the Newbury area along with listening to tape packs such as Fantazia, Global Gathering and Sidewinder some of which I attended. I purchased a set of basic Gemini direct drive turntables about a few months later along with my first collection of around about 20 vinyl from Total Sounds in Reading.

One of my very first records was Ed Rush and Opticals "the Creeps EP" alongside Goldies "Saturn Return EP" which inspired me big time. I met a man called Kev Clark in 2006 who goes by the names of DJ Tiempo and MC Clarkee who has a great knowledge of music and taught me the 10 musical commandments and helped me start something that I am professional in now and that is being a Drum and Bass DJ.

We started recording and writing music using Cubase which even to date is in the recording stage before being published. Look out for future productions from myself the DJ Miller and DJ Tiempo.

One year on in 2007 I decided that enough was enough and got rid of those weak / sensitive Gemini decks and replaced them with Technics 1210 Mark 5 turntables and a Pioneer DJM 600 mixer from Ebay. Nu Urban, Chemical Records and Breakbeat were now my prime choice for vinyl and equipment based online in the United Kingdom.

Moving on from those good old days I progressed my mixing styles with the latest jump up Drum and Bass adding tracks from my favourite producers such as Pleasure, Clipz, Hazard, Taxman, Original Sin, Sly, Twisted Individual, Dilinjah, TC, Guv, Zinc and Hype to name a few. My record collection consists of well over 1000+ vinyl.

From 2006 I have played for organisations such as 36 Chambers, Freestyle Artist Management, Selecta and Lowdown at the notorious Purple Turtle, the Jazz Club, the Bullingdon, the White House and Plug and Play Studios. I have performed with big artists such as MC Bassman, DJ Sly, Zero G, Benny Page, DJ Tiempo, Gee and MC Nutcracka.

I am now a well established professional Drum and Bass / Dubstep DJ with some very exciting future prospects, and I can't wait to see what else the future will hold for me. Bring on the bass and let the good times roll.

The Happy Pessimist is an alias name for the  Electro, Dubstep, Drum & Bass and House producer from Bristol who is also known as"Digital Justice"  "Dark Emotion" and "Dubst8" real name Kristian Smith and the CEO of Vinyl Related Records / DivisionBass Digital. He was born in northern Ireland in the late 70s. He grew up in germany in the 80s but then moved back to the UK (Bristol) in the very late 80s. He started DJing Hardcore, Jungle, Gabba Techno and Happy Hardcore in the early and mid 90s. In 1995 he started the company Digital Justice Media. Also in 1995 He setup an online dance magazine called Katch the Vibe. In 1997 he started producing Drum & Bass, Garage and all types of House music under the DVP alias. Also in 1997 He set up the record label called Vinyl Related Records.1997 to 2004 he co owned and promoted club nights called DigThis! in Bristol & Falmouth (Cornwall). He now produces Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Garage, Breakbeat and all types of House music. In 2012 He started a new sub-Label called DivisionBass Digital. Also in 2012 "Digital Justice Media" now bring you a low cost mastering service called GreenWaves Audio astering Service.

I've always been in love with the music,I'm into all genres.
I like writing lyrics but not very interested in becoming an MC,tho i'm sure i could try it sometime in the future.
I started off as a Drum n Bass head on the oldschool tape players.
Got addicted to dance/hardcore when i was a young teen and was into my Bonkers/Happy Hardcore for a while.
Then i started messing around on decks with mates and learning the basics of mixing.
I've recently become addicted to Electro/house/techno and i'm really starting to produce some nice sounds.
