July is the time for vacations, festivals, beaches, and, of course, good music. From innovative collaborations to genre-defining solo projects, this month's highlights feature a blend of experimental, ambient, techno, and electro sounds. Javier Marimon's latest work on Huinali explores a unique fusion of halftime and dub, creating an atmospheric synergy that is hard to ignore. Amenthia Recordings's mini compilation offers a proper brain-dance journey through complex polyrhythms.

The experimental ambient realm sees BODYXVIII delivering haunting soundscapes on Language Instinct. Meanwhile, Feral and Hypnus continue their fruitful partnership, producing relentless spiral techno that hypnotizes with its intensity. Kid Drama, a pioneer of the Autonomic genre and one-half of Instra:mental, combines influences from 80s TV, 90s Warp records, and early Autonomic sounds, creating a nostalgic yet fresh package.

Edward's debut on Smallville is a must-listen for those who appreciate the nuances of after-hour vibes, while VC-118A and Kaspiann's collaboration brings authentic electro energy to Helsinki-based label Vala. The Black Dog, a legendary duo from Sheffield, returns with the "Isolation" EP, featuring four tracks that harken back to early 2000s electronica. J. Albert's self-released project, "I Want to be Good So Bad," offers an atmospheric, glitchy, deep, and lo-fi exploration, perfect for downtime listening. Lastly, First Epoque introduces proper breaks to Well Street Records, perfectly aligning with the label's distinctive sound.

In over a quarter century, Fuse has stood the test of time by rooting itself in ageless music and employing pioneering artists - large or small, international or local - to command the decks of Belgium’s longest running dance floor. A celebration of this legacy and the renewed imprint is in order, coming in the form of a 30 track compilation of techno’s best and brightest from around the world. One track for one year, this collection of recordings highlights the status quo of enduring club music, beginning with a nod to the past: a re-release of Jeff Mills iconic ‘Step to Enchantment’ from 1993. This glance to the past quickly shoots us forward into the current state of techno with legendary artists like Planetary Assault Systems, DVS1, Steffi, Rødhåd, Donato Dozzy, DJ Nobu and many others who headlined the club in recent years. Cementing itself as a respected escapist institution, Fuse also calls on its growing local scene to prove why Brussels continues to remain a reference in the scene even outside of its own borders. 

An ode to the past and a hint to the future, Fuse shares this milestone with its original guests from 1994 all the way to its fresh party goers of the past years as a promise to keep its dance floor focused on quality music and timeless moments.

BCCO Podcast 380 is very special one. Today we are honoured to have electronic music pioneer Steve Rachmad aka STERAC with us with a two-hour set that was recorded live for promoter 01366 at the White Hotel in Manchester, UK.

Steve has used a range of aliases over his career reflecting his diverse outputs covering dub, disco and house. But STERAC’s focus has always been on the no-nonsense, darker, and deeper side of techno and this set is no exception to that.

BCCO Mix Series 380: Sterac

Both originating from Basel Switzerland, experimental dance outlets Amenthia Recordings and A Walking Contradiction combine forces and present their first collaborative release. Both known for their dare-to-do-different approach and proudly presenting sounds that come from their inner circle of friends they compiled the Flash Crash / Hack Crash EP with exactly this mindset. From Agonis' heavy stepper to Konduku's whirlpool of low frequencies on the Amenthia side with Lemont continuing on this same low-end tripped-out tip to the slo-mo swamp sounds from Varuna representing A Walking Contradiction in typical fashion.

From London’s inner suburbs comes this next guest, a through and through veteran of UK techno whose touch has left a lasting mark on the world around him. Steve Bicknell’s early days were spent in the intoxicating worlds of dub, reggae, acid, DIY warehouse parties and pirate radio, an auspicious mix of references that would inspire him to make music of his own. After a string of residencies at the UK’s then most influential parties, he launched his own series with creative collaborator Sheree Rashit: LOST. These legendary gatherings brought together names like Plaid, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Robert Leiner, Basic Channel, and a wider array of future techno hegemons. This was swiftly succeeded with the duo’s launch of imprint Cosmic Records, whose triumph went on to spawn another three successors: LOST (early provider of Bicknell’s dancefloor sounds), Clubtracks (for Chicago-leaning fare) and ID(entity) (a channel for the work of well established music-makers who wanted to release under a secret alias). A nine-year pause in productions came to a halt in the mid 2010s with Steve’s most recent label, 6dimensions, an exploration in sound and the whole spectrum of human emotion. Finally, 2017 saw Steve team up with Luke Slater and David Sumner under the LSD sobriquet, a force for the creation of ‘lysergic machine music’, heavily danceable stuff (just ask ADE, Dekmantel, Awakenings). With a story as full and enduring as Steve’s there’s much to pull from, and only experience in the flesh could attest to the depth and scope of his musical evolution, but it’s clear that the voice he has honed has only become louder and more refined. It’s a techno that’s fully embodied, a blistering percussive barrage that invokes something profoundly human and fundamental. Bassiani Podcast 217 is just a taste of what Steve has to offer, a window onto a world of sound he’s meticulously crafted for over three decades: masterfully layered and piercing sounds that shimmer and relentlessly rise in lockstep with a formidable 4/4 beat.

Hailing from Los Angeles, he gained notoriety with his residency on radio station 88.7FM kspc. He later become the import and export manager for the first dedicated techno distribution company on the west coast, « Entity Music Distribution ».

A true pioneer of the techno scene, Italian DJ and producer Gaetano Parisio needs no introduction but we'll just underline that since his first steps in the then-burgenoning electronic world back in 1992, his influence on the sound hasn't flinched one bit. Responsible for countless seminal releases on the likes of Primate, Zenit, Mosaic, his own structures Conform, ART and Southsoul and a myriad more, Gaetano has been pushing techno in new directions with ultimate drive and devotion to duty. Clocking in with a two-hour trip into his boundary-pushing headspace, the Neapolitan maestro treats us to a wild ride of trampling uptempo funk, sci-fi-indebted flights and further alien-engineered heaters. The forward-looking power of rave in its purest expression.

Toman - Dolce Far Niente 
I chose this track because it's a bouncy, groove-driven house roller that embodies the kind of energy I look for in my sets. Its natural swing makes it effortless to move to, creating an instant vibe. It’s the kind of track that subtly evolves, keeping the dance floor engaged without overwhelming the listener. 
The track's composition is refreshingly simple, which I really appreciate. 

What stands out to me is the tasteful use of stabbing synths, paired with a gradual decay that complements the deep, driving bassline. This combination really elevates the track, reinforcing the track's rhythm while adding texture, giving it that perfect balance of momentum and groove that makes it such a dance floor-ready track.
