“The song “Don’t Take My Life” was an unexpected blessing. I was asked to sing Marvin Gaye’s song, “What’s Going On”, for ABC’s local station in honor of the 92nd Bud Billiken Parade. The parade is a Chicago tradition that has been held for 91 consecutive years in honor of the children going back to school. This is the first time in 92 years that the parade will not be held. Due to time restrictions and clearance concerns, I wasn’t able to sing Marvin Gaye’s song. They told my label that if a song that fits today’s climate could be written, produced, and recorded in time, they would premier it. Tonya Johnson and I wrote the song and Darnell Johnson and Slavic Livins produced it. Please enjoy and remember life is everything. Stay Safe.
