O estilo apesar de ser muito underground aqui no país nestes últimos anos tem crescido o número de bandas que estão surgindo.

Algumas bandas da cena brasileira já tem reconhecimento internacional, com trabalhos lançados lá fora e trabalhos em conjunto com pessoas e bandas de outros países.Coletâneas/Compilações tem ajudado na divulgação dos artistas brasileiros com a ajuda também da internet.

Na década de 1990 algumas bandas criam um crossover de black metal com dark ambient para a sua música (também chamada de black ambient). A primeira banda a inovar nessa música ambiente foi o Burzum
