"A life in minor" - no matter, if you feel minor or major - is my latest collection of 27 brand new tracks i worked on the last 14 months with lots of love and passion. Dubtechno in many forms and variations, but also influences by other musical genres inbetween.

Expect deep and atmospheric Dubtechno in many facets with intense build-ups and long fading outros to give you a relaxing and calming listening experience. All tracks have been handcrafted with lots of details and put together without interruptions between the tracks, so you can enjoy the music completely in a single flow.

My intention on this release was to give melancholy and the feeling of minor a musical face. There is the background noise of life besides emotions fading like delays and reverbs within the music.

This album needs time to listen to, so please take your time! Overall, you will find over 8 hours of music to explore...

This new release by Smooth starts a series of EPs which are produced using vintage hardware equipment only. "Vintage 01" has become a very smooth blend of house vibes and dubtechno flavours, using the EMU Esi-4000 sampler besides the TR-626 and MC-303 by Roland. Minimalism in gear for the authentic touch. The series will continue with the Roland JD-800 and the Korg DW-6000.

As announced, the "vintage-series" by Smooth continues. The second EP was exclusively produced using vintage gear like Roland TR-626, Roland MC-303, EMU ESI-4000 and the fantastic Roland D-50, besides some outboard effects. Tracks somewhere between Dubtechno and Deep House, focused to rough chord sounds and warm, smooth filtered pads, from minimalism in sound to moving sound scapes and breathing noises. All that is in here, so grab it!

Part 3 of the Vintage series by Smooth continues the concept of tracks produced using vintage hardware and outboard equipment only. "Vintage 03" has become a much deeper dive into the inspiring cosmos of Dubtechno and Deep House than before. Sometimes minimalistic, then again full of moving atmospheres and living chords and pads, drifting to melancholic and uplifting moods here and there. If you like the Roland D50, you will notice it plays the biggest part in this machine orchestra.

On this EP, Smooth invited other artists to remix tracks of his previous "vintage-series" releases. Originally moving in the fields of Dubtechno, the remixes present a wide spectrum of musical styles. The croatian producer Fortadelis transforms "Forever" into nice melancholic Electronica. Dubabolical comes along with 3 powerfull Remixes between Dubstep and Drum & Bass. The Remix by Smooth Genestar is a Downtempo adaption of "Phase into Space". Ambient producer Jaja presents her sight of "Phase into Space" with a more minimal and spheric version. And of course, theres also a Remix of "Nothern Star" by Smooth himself.

The fifth album by german producer "Smooth" introduces 8 musical themes of meanwhile forgotten future visions. Musically located in the wide fields of Dubtechno, this album also offers fragments of Downbeat and Lounge, besides influences of Detroit Techno. Many details of the tracks have been recorded live and analog to capture the tracks as unique snapshots. Follow the music on a little timetrip back into the past, when the current present was a futuristic vision where everything seemed possible.

Part 4 of the "Vintage Series" by Smooth continues the concept of deep tracks exclusively beeing produced using hardware synthesizers and outboard effects. On the fourth release in the series of releases, vintage gear like Roland JV-2080, D-50, TR-626, MC-303 and the ESI-4000 Sampler by EMU have been used beside FX-Outboard by TC Electronic. All tracks have been mixed and recorded on the analog mixing console GL-2200-432 by Allen&Heath. Expect and explore some serious, deep Dubtechno. From beatless and Ambient influenced tracks to long upbuilding tracks, focussed onto rhythm and space.

Part 5 of the "Vintage-series" by Smooth presents a nice blend of deep rhythms, calm moods and melancholic pads, musically placed somewhere between Deep House and Dubtechno. As on the former 4 parts of this series of EPs, the goal was to produce the tracks using vintage hardware exclusively. This EP features good, old machines like the Roland TR-626, the Roland MC-303, the Roland D-50, the Roland JV-2080 and the EMU ESI-4000 - mixed on an analog mixing console by Allen&Heath.

Passion, obsession and addiction. For Dubtechno, Progressive, House and all kind of deep music. Thats what "Smooth" is about.

Beside my other music projects "New Age Hippies" (Psytrance), "Smooth Genestar" (Lounge/Downbeat) and "Tenonaki" (Techno/Tech House), i established "Smooth" back in 2006 as project to research in Dubtechno, Deep House, Garage House, UK House and Progressive, as these styles have been important influences over the bygone years.

My intention is to fuse elements and phrases of these different styles, to create this special kind of flow and to ignore musical borders. Therefore, i fuse beautiful and lively pads with dubby chords and elements of Trance, Progressive Trance and House. 

Beside producing and mastering, i operate the free audio netlabel "CYAN" in cooperation with Jaja. If you like as many different music genres as i do, expect to find further unique releases there for free.
