Welcome to episode #112 - Pattrn

Sonic experiments derived from syncopated rhythms, intricately crafted ambiences, and patiently evolving textures, Pattrn’s work as a producer is rooted to the perception of time and space. Playing violin since the age of four and later on majoring in both acousmatic music composition and sound engineering, Pattrn’s precision is the fruit of a lifelong dedication to music of all forms, from creation in itself or through his implications in Brussels’ scene. 

Beyond the years of technical know-how and self improvement in production, DJing, and live sets,  Brice Deloose aka Pattrn has been an active member of the local scene for quite some time. Co-creator of FTRSND, Brussels By Night Federation, @initiate_concept , as well as having been the artistic director of @fuse-club , Pattrn has spent much of his time promoting local artists and collectives to push forward Brussels' underground. 

Having shared the decks with the likes of @luke-slater , @luigitozzi , @claudioprc , @kangding-ray , @svrecaofficial , and many more, Pattrn uses his sets to impose his world of seamless hypnotic music to lure passionates for always one last dance.

Artist's biography :
gdss is a French DJ, designer, and sonic explorer crafting immersive sets and
installation where deep sound, emotions and architecture converge. His creations
evoke emotional journeys—between introspection and trance, where textures,
rhythms, and sensations intertwine. He co-runs the multidisciplinary label Face Æ
and the night collective ONSHORE. As part of V SENS, he bridges sound with
space, material, and perception.

gdss's words :
Opening the night at Macadam was a deeply special moment—stepping into the
booth of the club that raised me, just before two of the greatest, Rrose and
Woody92. I introduced my sound slowly, threading it through shadows and echoes,
letting it bloom with care. The set unfolds like a slow tide — hypnotic, organic, rising
and receding—built to blur the lines between body and space, between pulse and
silence. Carried by textures that breathe and rhythms that flicker, it explores the
delicate balance of light and dark. A movement inward and outward, designed to lose
yourself in, and perhaps return slightly altered.

Bleak, beautiful, and utterly locked in. EPs 1 through 5 trace Evigt Mörker’s early path: from cavernous ritual techno to shimmering, slow-burn transcendence. Each record stands on its own—but mixed together, they feel like one long breath held in the dark. Cold pressure. Deep time. Pure atmosphere.

Each August, something unusual happens on the quiet Åland Islands: a geodesic dome in the middle of the forest becomes a portal. For two days, the Kokong Festival transforms the Dome at Stallhagen into a living instrument, home to ambient drift, off-grid techno, experimental electronics, and the kind of late-night moments that only occur when sound, light, and space align perfectly. Now in its fourth edition, Kokong has outgrown its status as a local curiosity. It’s a full-bodied experience, complete with live sets, spatial sound design, visual installations, movement performances, and workshops, crafted by Kulturföreningen Ström, the nonprofit organization that has built Åland’s most refined sound system and a wider platform for electronic and electroacoustic arts. This year’s edition (August 1 to 2) will feature around thirty acts in total, mixing top-tier Nordic talent with handpicked international guests, all performing just a few feet from the crowd.

“This summer’s edition will be the biggest yet,” says Johan Grönlund, Chair of Kulturföreningen Ström. “With more international acts, a handcrafted high-end sound system, and greater investments in the visual experience.” Among the headliners are Icelandic dub techno veteran Exos, Swedish modular explorer Andreas Tilliander, and Norwegian legend Mental Overdrive, joined by artists from Austria, the Nordics, and a strong showing of Åland’s own community of producers, DJs, and tinkerers. But Kokong’s ethos extends well beyond the stage. Free hands-on workshops with synth makers give festival-goers and local youth a chance to build, tweak, and discover. A performance by the Urgrund collective will blend movement, sound, and storytelling into a cohesive experience that defies easy categorization. Kokong moves at its own pace, quietly growing into one of the Nordic region’s most thoughtfully curated electronic festivals.

As part of this feature, we’re thrilled to share an exclusive preview from the upcoming KOKONG Festival Vol.1 Sampler, a compilation capturing the spirit of the festival through sound. The track is a collaboration between Swedish electronic mainstay Andreas Tilliander and Croatian-Swedish jazz innovator Goran Kajfeš. Built on a steady, hypnotic groove, the piece lets Tilliander’s textured synth work stretch out like smoke, while Kajfeš’s trumpet drifts in and out like a distant signal. It’s deep, psychedelic, and quietly ecstatic, exactly the kind of alchemy that feels right at home under the Dome’s glimmering ceiling.

PREMIERE: Andreas Tilliander & Goran Kajfes - More Than Worlds (Kokong Remix)

The thirteenth. London based Greek native @forma_oscura, resident of Athens based @faderadio, adds a particularly hypnotic and undulating chapter to the series, showcasing a broad selection and mix of the mesmerizing and reflective.

Gentler beginnings bring the listener down to the required depth, layers stacked one by one, creating a practically kaleidoscopic tapestry of sound. A rising energy in the mix picks us up, effortlessly mixing this hypnotic groundwork with an impulse, a drive, a undeniable rhythm that keeps our feet planted on the ground while we lose our heads in the clouds.

Hypnotic textures replace those more energetic from midway through the mix. We're encouraged to reflect, to dream even, to lose our way again and again as the beat continues to show us the way forward.

The path finally leads us into a surreal haze. We're lifted from the depths, our trail suddenly behind us in plain sight, as we bid farewell and the journey concludes, as all journeys must.

As we slowly ease out of the warmer summer days, we are delighted to welcome Noah Lyas to the Embodiment podcast series. With more than 15 years of experience in making music and as co-founder of Profundo Collective, he has carved out a space for deep, hypnotic explorations that move masterfully between nuance and vigor.

Noah Lyas reflects on the recording process with striking authenticity:

“During the summer, it gets so hot in my attic studio that making music is almost impossible. Even in the evening, with the windows open, it’s hard to stay focused and attentive while composing; only warm, heavy ambient pads come into being, with crickets providing the rhythm.

This mix was recorded just after all those hot days, when the temperature was finally low enough to dance in the attic again, and to feel what it’s like to be active. It begins calmly, flowing slowly, until the first low notes become possible after which it spills over into rhythmic steps. Just like the transition from those sweltering summer evenings to the creation of this set.”

A fluid journey that rises gently from ambient depth to grounded rhythmic flow, echoing the passage from heat-induced stillness into motion, presence, and dance.

What happens if Clubsounds meets Dubsounds? "Dubwärts" is a new EP by Smooth and the first step into a new direction of sound which represents an unique fusion between Dubtechno, Progressive and Clubsounds. Primary elements on this release are the concinnity of sounds, the spheric epos and deep flow of all tracks, supported by pumping beats. The mission is to continue the journey to the roots of Dubtechno on future releases.

Passion, obsession and addiction. For Dubtechno, Progressive, House and all kind of deep music. Thats what "Smooth" is about.

Beside my other music projects "New Age Hippies" (Psytrance), "Smooth Genestar" (Lounge/Downbeat) and "Tenonaki" (Techno/Tech House), i established "Smooth" back in 2006 as project to research in Dubtechno, Deep House, Garage House, UK House and Progressive, as these styles have been important influences over the bygone years.

My intention is to fuse elements and phrases of these different styles, to create this special kind of flow and to ignore musical borders. Therefore, i fuse beautiful and lively pads with dubby chords and elements of Trance, Progressive Trance and House. 

Beside producing and mastering, i operate the free audio netlabel "CYAN" in cooperation with Jaja. If you like as many different music genres as i do, expect to find further unique releases there for free.
