Hidden Beach asked me to remix a song by Jill Scott for a remix album that was to be in conjunction with her show "The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency." Unfortunately the project never came out. I talked to Jill and she never was too into the idea. LOL! I played the remix for her and she LOVED it! Oh Well! Their loss is your gain!

It’s time for Smooth Agent to drop some deep African grooves with the 2012 mixes of the Mushroom Boyz “Slave Song”. The original “Slave Song” was included on the acclaimed “Naheng EP”. This sets includes four different perspectives to the classics song.  First up is Cali’s house ledgend Stephen Rigmaiden giving his rendition for the deep peak hour dancefloor., Up second is Amsterdam’s Jason Chieron who is a rising star with his intricate afro productions.  From South Africa’s the original song’s origin we have Darque who is renowned African talent. To put the icing on this release we have one of the Atlanta GA’s biggest dj’s & dance producers Salah Ananse. With such a classic song Smooth Agent had to get a stellar class of producers to work their grooves on this release. Yoruba Classic Mix

From my Grammy-nominated album with the Heritage Blues Orchestra "And Still I Rise", an international collaboration honoring African-American Musical traditions. This song was made famous by Leadbelly and remains one of the only work songs I know of that references women being in chain gangs. 

Note: Hannah is a code for the sun.

Go Down Hannah

This is one of my favorite traditional Blues songs to sing. Also known as "The Killing Floor Blues" which refers to coming upon hard times and having to work in a slaughter house. This song also highlights the call and response that happens between the voice and the guitar in this genre.

With blues/folk/roots music lyrics often change with the teller and the experiences they bring to the music. i had never heard a woman singing this song...or singing it with lyrics that refer to loving another woman, or doing whatever it took to support and love their partner during said hard times. 

Recorded live at Aulnay All Blues Festival in France with the Heritage Blues Trio in 2009.
