Mike Rivera is joining us from Costa Rica for our 204th podcast.

Mike Rivera is an emerging Costa Rican electronic music talent, who graduated in 2024 from the country’s first DJ/Producer academy, DJLAB, where he was trained by highly influential figures in the scene such as its founder Esteban Howell and Byron Alvarado. His passion for music began in childhood, showing early interest and practice with various percussion instruments such as snare drums, timbales, as well as the guitar. At the age of 15, he discovered electronic music through genres like EDM and dubstep. Three years later, he attended his first event at one of the most renowned clubs in the country (Club Vértigo), where an incredible set by Nina Kraviz marked a turning point and officially sparked his love and passion for techno. In 2021, he acquired his first mixer, influenced not only by his passion and love for music, but also by his broad knowledge of different musical
genres.

In 2022, he had the opportunity to play at a friends’ party, officially marking the beginning of his career as a DJ. Throughout this journey, he has performed at various clubs across the country such as Avalon, Quantico, Utopia and Antik. He was also part of the third edition of Sesiones en Casa and had the privilege of performing internationally at HighClass in Barcelona, as well as at ONEIRO Festival 2024 in collaboration with 3AM Techno and Rebels. Mike has shared lineups with well-known DJs in the local scene such as Fredo, Ryu, DIO, Undervicher, Diego C, Will The Kreator, Valentina Cordido, Partícula de Dios, Lucretia SINZ, Roberto Corrales, Byron Alvarado, and with international artists such as Briela Veneno and Reinier Zonneveld. His specialty is dark, hypnotic, raw, and hard groove techno, influenced and inspired by various DJs and producers such as Marrøn, Rene Wise, Franco Rossi, Hujus, Alarico, Chlar, Yanamaste, Beau Didier, Byron Alvarado, and Partícula de Dios.
