Hackney born and Colchester based he returns with a cheeky new single Here Come The Freaks. 

Written, recorded and self-produced by Johnno in the middle of recording a new Snippet album, this song just didn't seem comfortable being sat between two tracks on an album, so it busted out in its own right. 

Here Come The Freaks is in celebration of the picked upon, the bullied and the under-appreciated members of society.

Former caretaker, London Underground railman and relationship manager Johnno Casson aka Snippet started out writing songs at 15 in his bedroom on a Hackney council estate with a tennis racket for a guitar and a soap-on-a-rope microphone.

Johnno juggled being in a band with holding down a normal job (playing a packed Astoria at night and washing out s**t stained lifts in the morning).

Johnno played for Adrian Sherwood’s (On-U-Sound) 5-a-side football team (silky smooth striker), gloriously beating The Sun’s newspaper’s team at a championship for charity at Arsenal’s old Highbury stadium and for the last 12 years he has been perfecting his coleslaw making skills whilst getting M.E and becoming a well-respected figurehead on the British D.I.Y./Wonky Pop scene by making excellent songs that may come from the borders and margins, but kiss you in the sweet spot as good as more mainstream songs do. 

Oh and Johnno has recorded and toured extensively with all sorts of bands including as lead singer with Deep Joy who were born out of the early 90’s London acid house/club scene - via Shoom nightclub and being named as Danny
Rampling’s favourite band, working with David Harrow and Andrew Weatherall who produced and remixed their debut single on Brainiak Records - onto the early years of trip-hop on James Lavelle’s Mo ‘Wax label and being championed by Gilles Peterson on Kiss FM. 

They dented the charts in New York, Tokyo and London and also worked
with the aforementioned legendary On-U-Sound label founder and producer Adrian Sherwood on their Ray Hayden produced material.

For the last 12 years Johnno has been releasing independent music under his own name, as Snippet, Old Tramp and Walken400, creating a unique catalogue of recordings and performances and has been named by Tom Robinson as the most played BBC Introducing artist ever on his BBC 6 Music show. 

He also the founder/producer of the Warm and Toasty Club, an innovative  and award winning club that uses delightful live events to make older folk feel cherished and less lonely. Of late the club has kept people connected throughout lockdown with 70 online chat shows with fun features and live singing guests (called Online Memory Afternoons), a monthly Warm and Toasty Newsletter and a daily telephone befriending service to help keep loneliness and isolation at bay and keep people connected.

Snippet is the work of one man – Johnno Casson. Johnno cut his musical teeth as lead singer of trip hop pioneers Deep Joy, working with the likes of Andrew Weatherall (Primal Scream), James Lavelle (Mo’ Wax/UNKLE) and Adrian Sherwood (On-U-Sound) and touring extensively – including dates with The Farm. Staggeringly prolific, Johnno releases music under a variety of different names, including his own & Old Tramp in addition to Snippet.

London reared & Colchester based Snippet has been forging a wonderfully vibrant path for the past Six years & has released Two Albums & Four EP’s between 2008-2013 which have attracted a world wide following to this very unique brand of wonky pop music from the leftfield; Bouncy with a dash of folk & a splash of funk.

As the cool bass cello riff took center stage in this track, its dynamic vibe seamlessly paired with Kate's vocals. This combination captures the essence and meaning of the song. Recorded at home DIY style with a beaten up old tube mic, a nylon stringed guitar, an assortment of guitar pedals and a set of good intentions. This album is chock full of personality, characters and brimming with life.

On English Fables Vol.1 you’ll find an authentic voice delivering stories of the England he knows, of people and of life – all wrapped in musical grit, bounding knee beats, bouncing guitar refrains and beautiful strings, with some wonderfully oddball songs with hooks to die for (Michael, I Knocked You Off The Ladder, Billy With The Wonky Toe).

And in the tradition of the classic English songbook there are wonderful little original gems to be found like Funny Habits, Tip Of My Tongue, Resting Face and Stop And Enjoy it.
There’s even a guest spot for the velvety tones of Marina Florance.

Behind Johnno’s 'survive life by laughing at life' persona there is a real deeper craftmanship in action here, through his enchanting multi instrumentation and clever lyrical interplay.

There’s also a fearlessness from Johnno in covering his battles with chronic health conditions (The Little Things), toxic masculinity faced growing up on a council estate (Patriarchy Vs A Mothers Love), male violence (Punch), the pollution of our waterways (Pipe Dreams), and mental health challenges (Sometimes Life Is Really).

Track 2 Come On Down was apparently born out of listening sessions with Sleaford Mods, Donald Byrd's New Perspective and Dexy's Midnight Runners, with a splash of 7” inch Northern Soul thrown in for good measure, yet it comes out sounding totally upbeat Snippet, totally Johnno in a top mood.

English Fables – Vol.1 is an album of empathy, compassion and warmth - this is beautiful English outsider art from a thriving DIY cottage industry of really interesting recording artists like Johnno Snippet making special musical moments and new memories to bring joy to people.

David Harrow is a dub and  electronica legend who has worked with everyone from On U Sound and Andrew Weatherall, to Bjork. Rude Audio have been producing dub and leftfield dance tunes for a decade or more, garnering plays and support from the likes of Weatherall (RIP), Justin Robertson and Don Letts on BBC Radio 6. ‘With Leaving Birds’ sees Dougie Harley sing a story of goodbye from the banks of a Scottish sea loch.
The song tells of a lover compelled to leave, regardless of how much they are begged to stay. Set in autumn as winter approaches and the birds are called to other shores.

The 17th century English minister & scientist Charles Morton wrote a about how birds migrate to the moon and back every year. Ancient sailors believed birds returned from space to land on their ships.
Medieval encyclopedia’s have texts about barnacle geese growing from trees over water. From Ophelia and Shakespeare to Homers iliad the literary world is awash with stories of migration and water & sea. These are the inspiration for ‘with leaving birds’.
