Berlin based artist Max Dahlhaus grabs our attention with 'Short Morrow', his latest album on ‘Infinite Machine’, which is not only a view on life at the moment through the artist’s eyes, but a shout-out to everyone who is listening to see that change is inevitable.

Max’s third album is a collection of thoughts on society and the way we navigate this digitalised world while being observed by technology every step of the way.

Many sounds on 'Short Morrow' were recorded by Max during quarantine in 2020 in the empty streets of Berlin. "There weren't many people outside, but the all surrounding energy of what humans are was still there.", Max explains, when asked about the creative process.

His wanderings through the streets of his city took him to experience places that usually were filled with life and motion from a completely new perspective. "I had time to think about all the years that had passed and explore what I felt in exactly that moment. 'Short Morrow' represents my inner dialogue about different aspects of our digitally connected society and the life around it.", Max recalls and explains that "Electro magnetic fields are not visible, but they are recordable. For days I collected those sounds during the first lock down in the empty streets of the usually so quirky streets of Berlin."

The audience can follow Max’s explorations on the album, listening to the atmosphere shifting from experimental to rather clubby, and then back to sentimental in a blink of an eye. Sometimes it might give you the feeling of being lost, while the next track gives you a feeling of being hunted. The sound of the omnipresent electromagnetic waves in our life trails thought the whole album and gives it a dystopian undertone, which makes ‘Short Morrow’ an eyewitness record of the here and now, but also a tale of a possible near future.

Guta (fka CL GOLEM) is a Hungarian creator, by profession a graphic designer who works with musicians such as Lyra Pramuk and a dedicated music enthusiast, occasional DJ.  Growing up genderqueer in a culturally isolated, rural worker environment, the local folk, choir and metal scenes were important in their childhood socialization.
This musical baggage along with the influence of online music communities, helped them to form their idiosyncratic, punk style. Now living on the Hungarian countryside again, this edgerunner mix is inspired by the complex rhythms of Hungarian and Slavic traditional dances. It features a wild selection of hits from labels like Hyperboloid Records, SVBKVLT, Chinabot and Peer Moscow.

The 15th release of katharsis is the EP “Otra Vida” by Serbian artist Cuban Chamber of Commerce. Spanning four tracks, the EP portrays the gloomiest corners of your subconscious emotional landscape by blending ghostly pads and eerie sound effects with a deep reverberating bass. But even though the atmosphere is filled with tension and has a high chance of provoking goosebumps, the EP has a mysteriously hopeful and embracing quality to it.

“Otra Vida” is quite a deviation from the artist’s former releases, as his earlier works are more bass-driven and dancefloor-oriented. With two successful releases under his belt, respectively on Molten Moods and his own label kepasaparadoks, the artist now seeks to explore new sonic territories by putting emphasis on textures, atmosphere and field recordings instead of complex high-tempo drum patterns. As hinted in the title, “Otra Vida” carries a message of the different and unknown, which is well carried through to the listener by the ghostly mood of the EP.

Artistic collaborations don't have to be exhaustive, competitive or combative. And for Berlin-based producers James Ginzburg and Ziúr, their work together as myxomy has been almost effortless. Both artists bring with them a deep history of recording in vastly different circumstances: Ginzburg has worked on bass music, folk, experimental techno (as half of Emptyset) and experimental drone, while Ziúr played in a number of bands before settling into her current explorative electronic mode. So when they started working together in 2020, it was their respective backgrounds that provided the touch-paper for an explosive artistic head-to-head.

Ginzburg instigated the process by sending Ziúr beats he'd made in Bristol in a former life, and Ziúr, fresh from finishing her PAN-released third solo album "Antifate", set about sculpting them into completely new forms. In response, Ziúr dispatched vignettes to Ginzburg and he did the same. As they exchanged ideas back and forth and lapsed into absurdity, the songs followed suit, evolving from raw concepts and loops into proper songs as both Ziúr and Ginzburg traded melodies, lyrics and production tricks. The duo's fragmented sketches and scribbles took on new life, channeled, refined and re-invigorated as they developed into anxious, hybridized pop jewels.

Their surprising stylistic choice is revealed immediately on opening track 'Sloppy Attempt', a fractured mood stabilizer that dissociates from Bristolian trip-hop into glossy android pop. Ziúr's singing voice carries the track into a sonic black hole, mutated into an alien gurgle as she gently coos the prophetic words, "a sloppy attempt won't cut it, no no." And as Ginzburg takes the reins on 'A little opaque', singing over Ziúr's twisted neon electronics, it's clear that both artists have pushed each other outside of their comfort zones, providing the reassurance and comfort necessary to evolve.

On 'In and Until', they find an exact median between their two most recent albums. Twanging hurdy-gurdy sounds remind of Ginzburg's 'crystallise, a frozen eye', compelled forward by brittle foley percussion we last heard on "Antifate". A scalding industrial boil of deranged synthesizer squeals and rolling drums parts like the Red Sea on 'Toxin Out', cooling to a crust for Ziúr's half-sung words to echo overhead. "Burn the bridges it's a choice, eat the rich, and throw up on the fuckbois."

"Myxomy" isn't an overtly political album, but driven by a desire to create and a shared philosophical space, Ziúr and Ginzburg are naturally outspoken. Their vision of pop is twisted through history and floated on frustration, growth and constant reinvention. It's a unique mix of polar elements - light and dark, noise and silence, joy and melancholy - that centers itself on one important theme: together, we're far more powerful than we ever could be alone.

We are a Dublin based nightlife media outlet and events project that is primarily focused on showcasing talented Irish DJs and producers. 

Having had great success thus far we are now looking to branch out and have formed a record label and Youtube channel under the name Talamh Records. 

Our vision for the label has stemmed due to the ever-growing, consistent quality of dance music that is currently being produced in Ireland. We would like to aid in showcasing this diversity of talent to as many people who are interested in dance music as possible.

This is so we can further push our collective vision and aim to provide an online hub where Irish artists can be promoted and display their music on a scale that will aim to be recognised nationwide and beyond in the near future.
