Soul vocals and mellow guitar vibes, mixed with folk spirit, gives rise to the eclectic sound of singer/songwriter Tiina Flank. A lyrical seamstress, Tiina describes her songwriting process as a direct route to simple wisdom. “It’s easy to get lost in ideals, doubts…. every day things. Out of all the versions of myself, I trust the one that plays guitar.”

Hailing from a musical family (her mother a blues singer and her three brothers proficient with guitar and drums), Tiina credits her musical abilities to the fact that music was always playing at home. “As a child, I remember dreaming up melodies. I’d wake up and my mom would have the stereo cranked. I got a lot of Motown in my rem cycle.”. 

Tiina spent her early 20’s in Toronto, taking in the world class music scene and putting in serious hours of vocal training while teaching herself guitar. Taking the advice of her vocal coach, she busked the streets of Toronto to build vocal strength and stamina. She took her love for street performing to a more temperate climate; Vancouver. Busking turned into an impromptu tour of the west coast which concluded in Northern California’s Siskiyou County. This experience solidified Tiina’s musical aspirations and she returned to Vancouver to play some of it’s most iconic venues, like The Media Club, The Railway Club and The Biltmore Cabaret.

Her music is raw, soulful pop, with the distinct attitude of an introspective fly on the wall; always on the outside wanting to get in.

Today, Tiina is back in her hometown of Thunder Bay, where she’s busy playing shows, collaborating with local musicians and recording preparations. Her love for music comes second only to her dog Manny, a Chihuahua cross who was rescued off the streets in Mexico.

DIP is a Finnish instrumental rock group influenced by the likes of Joe Satriani and Danny Gatton. Headed by guitarist/songwriter Juha Siirilä, the band performs compact and catchy guitar-driven tunes, blending influences ranging from rock and surf to country and blues. 

The song “Feel the Breeze” debuted on Mad Guitar Records’ “Melodic Soloists” compilation CD released on January 2010. The track got soon picked for the Guitar Player Magazine’s “Editor Boy's Big Eight” column receiving a highly positive review.

DIP’s debut EP, “The Story of John Doe”, was released digitally on November 2014. The record features five tried and true live favorites sure to keep your foot tapping.

Rounding out the four-piece group are bass player Janne Boman, drummer Jyri Salmi and rhythm guitarist Olli-Pekka Ollikainen. The line-up has been rocking the Helsinki club circuit since 2010.

Tak Jovendrake(formerly known as Tak: The Axe Kid) - that would be moi - is a Japanese fellow who acquired the skills in rock and metal guitar playing during his full-time residency in Canada. He was the founder of a three-piece rock band Fusillade which, after his departure, changed their name to Liquid(Liquid would later spawn members of a now-defunct Canadian rock band Templar, as well as Carly Rae Jespin's touring musician). Tak has since primarily been a solo artist focusing on instrumental rock/metal for the most part, and has expanded his horizons to explore and incorporate many many other styles of music, such as jazz, electronica, world music, and classical, into his own. 

Tak Jovendrake is, thus, a progressive musician. Though his music often tends to lean toward the metal realm, his sound is not exclusively progressive rock, nor is it strictly progressive metal. It goes all over the map. His more recent project back in Canada with a Vancouver-based composer/guitarist Brendan Blanchard, called Voltophonix, is a prime example of how diverse his playing can be. With Voltophonix, he has shown a different side of his musical talent, one that features a laid-back melodic instrumental folk rock that also involves his acoustic guitar work.

Since the summer of 2018, he has also begun taking on the roles of sound engineer and producer working with a number of musicians in Finland and beyond. He is also in the process of creating an online platform/portal called Sonified Souls Association for Creators of Music featuring musicians and sound engineers of various styles and genres.

Part metalhead, part jazz cat, part classical enthusiast, part bluesman, part folk fellow, part singer, part electronica lover, part exotic musician, part avant garde madman, mostly rocker, always an artist.
