This mix was recorded live in the Mojave Desert at a new campout called TRANCEPORT presented by Tri-Vision Events. The event featured “One-Stage-One-Vibe” of 48 hours of nonstop techno, psy-trance and trance. I was invited by my good DJ friend Michael Liu who was asking me on behalf of the promoter, Monique. The catch: I was invited to play a sunrise trance set! (For those of you who don't know, I started off playing trance in 1998-1999 but quickly transitioned into other genres). So I haven't played trance in 20+ years! But I decided it would be fun to hang with Michael Liu and get a little nostalgic over some trance music.

I collected some newer music for my sunrise set but mostly wanted to play some of the classic trance that I remember from back in the day. A lot of the nostalgic tracks are newer remixes that I hadn't heard before. Technically speaking, this is not one of my better sets as I haven’t played trance in so long and mixing trance is fairly different from mixing house (ex. It’s important to mix in key since trance is so melodic and it's also a lot of smooth, gradual mixing). There is one damn-near trainwreck during my set but I was able to correct it after about 15 seconds (strangely enough, I don’t remember it happening at the time)... anyway, I'll let you listen & find it yourself. ;) 

The mix starts at 138bpm which is the tempo that Thee-O was playing. I started off with some of the harder tech trance while it was still dark out. Eventually I slowed it down to 134bpm around sunrise but then sped it back up in preparation for Michael Liu who was slotted to play psy trance after me. I didn’t plan my set list but I did want to time the song "Young & Reckless" right at sunrise, which was 6:18am. After that I played some of the classics as the sun was rising in the desert. Finally, I played "Nothing Without You" (track 24) in honor of my friend BFunky who had recorded a mix called "Hearts To Remember" in February 2018 that was a very pretty mix of melodic and progressive house. BFunky had recorded that mix as an ode to all the loved ones that we've lost along the way. We lost Brandon last year so I thought it was fitting to play a song from that mix to honor their memory.

Aside from a light mastering, this live recording has not been altered or edited in any way. What you hear is what we all heard in the desert that morning.
