Fenton is the guitar-based side project of Shuttle358 (California-based Dan Abrams). In 2005, he released the debut Pup on the Japanese imprint Plop. Mythic Failures is a download-only release to celebrate the digital re-release of Pup.

Mythic Failures follows shortly after the creation of Shuttle358's latest Can You Prove I Was Born. On Mythic, Dan takes his performances and processing techniques deeper with personal themes of mystery, dissonance, imperfection, and surrender. The guitar, while the main source of sound, is subject to his refined electronic manipulations that leave the ghost of the instrument afloat in a sea of new textures.

Wolf

The wolf pack you hear on the files are recorded in Sweden last summer. More specific in Bergslagen. An area with wonderful nature, forests and wilderness.

A quiet summer night, light fog over the moors in the forests you can hear this wonderful concerts. But you need to know where In Sweden, there are only around 35 wolf packs.

This pack consists of the alpha male and the female, three youngsters from last year and five puppies from this year.

On this first file, in a series, are the three youngsters from last year on their own. The distance between me and the wolf pack is around 175 yards / 160 meters. Between us is a moor with light fog. It is a wonderful nordic summer night with no wind.

This is one of my first recordings with a Telinga PRO-8 MK2 stereo parabolic dish connected to a ZOOM recorder. 
Recordings have some post production. 

The howling wolf in the picture is the alpha female of the pack.

SOFA is the home for one of the most interesting string duos in Norway, whichever genre. We are talking about Sheriffs of Nothingness, featuring Kari Rønnekleiv and Ole-Henrik Moe. They continue to impress and surprise us with their compelling music. Their fourth release on SOFA is a mature confirmation of profound interplay and musicmaking. 

An Autumn Night at the Crooked Forest is a sort of tribute to the oldest and most traditional place for afterthoughts, meditation and reflection: the fireplace. Be it a bonfire (as it was for the first, say, five million years), or an indoor fireplace, or, even a woodstove could do the works as the place for people to gather, to tell stories, to share thoughts, or, to just be. This art of just being around the fireplace is perhaps what this album is trying to be about: four improvised pieces, dedicated to different types of firewood, or how it burns and glooms. Consequently the music on this album is not really moving anywhere in particular, it just is, trying to emphasize the point in everyday life where you are not trying to move on, where one can allow oneself to just halt and let your thoughts move freely. This record is recorded in the middle of Krokskogen (west of Oslo), in an old cabin, and by a fireplace that was, in different ways, burning all the time. So, all the way, you can hear it crackle, gently. Don’t miss out on Sheriffs of Nothingsness latest achievement available on CD and DL.

Sheriffs of Nothingness: Muted birch-logs

I love anthills - as a kid I loved watching the ants work, schleping building materials and prey home to the habitat. Nowadays I love listening to them. This is my first recording using the LOM Audio Geofon in a combination with an Aquarian Audio H2a. I had my DIY "needle" (4mm threaded rod about 30 cm/12" long)attached to the Geofon so I could go under the anthill - the hydrophone was placed on top of the hill... you can see the placement of each on the photo.
The combination works great, lots of low end from the Geofon - the hydrophone picks up the highs... I'm really happy with the results.
Recorded with Sound Devices MixPre 3II 32 bit float - In post I normalized to -1dB and took out the high end on the Geofon track.
