I've Been So Lost for So Long

‘Repent’ was mixed by Lee Groves (Goldfrapp, Bertie Blackman)and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, The White Stripes)in NYC. It is Manor's first single since their debut EP released early 2016, a bold and resolute statement powered by pounding drums, trumpeting guitars and Duff’s ardent multi- vocals.

Melbourne dream pop outfit Frida have announced the release of their brand new single Everything (Is You). The hypnotic offering is the first taste of their upcoming EP I Want In Your Head, out November 25th.

Recorded and produced by the gang in their new Collingwood studio (shared with Plastic, The Cactus Channel and Alex Lahey), Everything screams and soothes, consumes and envelops the listener in its bizarre, smitten world. Characterised by mechanical synths, a heaving groove and harmonic, soaring vocals, the song builds a home somewhere between your soul, psych, and electronic pop records. The chorus - “Stay here til the morning, everything is you” - is simple, but the delivery encompasses a desperation that unnerves...Everything is a friendly nod to Mac Demarco, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and early Tame Impala, with angelic echoes of Florence Welch and Bat For Lashes.

So far, 2016 has been a big year for Frida. In between writing, recording, and returning to Singapore to play a string of festival shows, they also released their second single Limbo, garnering play and praise from Spotify, Triple J and Double J alike.

This is a recording of the first ever Death Cab for Cutie show. It was made by our friend Trevor Adams on his dictaphone at The Pacer House in Bellingham, Washington on November 22, 1997. Sprawled across couches and sitting crosslegged on the floor were 25 of our closest friends and fellow musicians. Everyone played acoustic or semi-acoustic with no PA. Trevor made and passed bowl after bowl of microwave popcorn because he was (and I assume still is) a great host. 

Chris Walla and I had just finished the You Can Play These Songs with Chords cassette and we thought it would be fun to play a few shows around Bellingham to celebrate the release. We recruited Nick Harmer to play bass and Walla’s childhood friend Nathan Good to play drums. None of us thought we were starting a band nor did our ambitions for DCfC extend very far past this particular evening. We simply thought it would be fun to play these songs for our friends before moving on to other things. 

I remain forever grateful to Trevor for inviting us to play in his living room 20 years ago today. It was one of the greatest nights of my life at the time and its significance has only grown since.

Eilish Gilligan has today announced her first single for the new year, S.M.F.Y. , to be available worldwide on February 2. 2018 is shaping up to be a mammoth year for Eilish, having just been announced as a part of the Secret Garden Festival lineup and as support for Woodes’ tour in March.

S.M.F.Y. is a pop song struck by lightning. Elaborate and bombastic, yet somehow wildly, desperately intimate, this is an entirely new sound for Eilish - but it feels just like home. Produced alongside Japanese Wallpaper and inspired by the elastic production of Bleachers and the writing prowess of Lorde, S.M.F.Y. is a unique, double-take offering from this little pop prodigy.

2017 was a big year for Eilish; she released two singles The Feeling and Creature of Habit, both of which received airplay across triple j, Double J, ABC Radio National and Unearthed, and community stations across the country. She was also announced as a finalist in triple j’s Lorde RMX competiton. Her warm, spectral pop has earned well-deserved praise from triple j’s Zan Rowe, Nick Findlay and Richard Kingsmill, as well as glowing write-ups from Rolling Stone Australia, NME, I OH YOU, Pilerats, frankie magazine and more. Eilish has played in Japanese Wallpaper's live band nationally and internationally, and shared lineups with Alex Lahey, E^ST, Mallrat, Confidence Man and more.
