Rinse France resident RONI launches her own imprint Nehza Records, named after the animated film ‘Nezha Conquers the Dragon King’ by Wang Shuchen published in 1979. The first release is an EP from Bordeaux-based member of the Super Daronne collective, Neida. Bringing RONI’s fantasy-led vision to life, Neida draws from the 90s UK rave scene with orchestral-like vocals, downtempo breaks, crisp percussions and acid basslines. 

‘For All The Time Sake’ is the final track of the record, rounding off the EP on a light, vibrant note as we head into the warmer, brighter months.

In this Month's edition of RAIDAR on @refugeworldwide, OG raiders @tamila30 and @soucidj take the reins to bring you the first instalment of GOODIES – a regular format in which they showcase femme producers from around the globe. The show encompasses music from a variety of genres, including what the girls are vibing to at the moment as well as some forgotten gems and of course some music from the label. The chit chat is in German, but if you only understand the language of bangers then you'll appreciate it just fine (talking is kept to a minimum to allow the tunes to do their thing) . Deutsch-sprachige listeners out there however, will gain some insight into our resident power-duo as they joke around and talk about their friendship and shared connection to music against a backdrop of mind warping IDM, Breakbeat, Jersey Club and other Hardcore heaviness.

A new 10-track record from the Sheffield artist, 9696 Dream represents the first in a series of three new 96 Back releases on Local Action scheduled across 2021, climaxing with a new full-length album this Autumn.

Barely out of his teens, 96 Back has spent the last three years turning heads with music that’s as evocative as it is intricate. Prodigiously talented and with UK rave history in his blood — he’s the son of legendary Sheffield promoter Matthew Swift and studied under the tutelage of hometown hero Liam O’Shea — he cut his teeth with releases on Central Processing Unit, Hypercolour and Happy Skull, while also collaborating with like-minded souls such as Skee Mask, Happa and Henzo.

Last year 96 Back signed to Local Action for the release of Sugilite, a four-track EP that showcased him at both his heaviest and most delicate, picking up support across the board and cementing his status as “one of the most exciting producers in the UK.”

The months since Sugilite have seen 96 Back hitting all-time high levels of productivity, creating some of his most advanced and evocative music yet — both solo and with Special Request, who included a collaboration with 96 Back in his recent DJ-Kicks.

9696 Dream is the first of three releases due from 96 Back on Local Action this year, a 10-track record of new material that plays as a continuous 31 minutes and introduces an audio language of sorts that flows through all three releases. Honing in on the dreamier side of 96 Back’s music, 9696 Dream closes on ‘Friend Moment’ — a touching collaboration with one of his oldest friends, Joe Paisan.

Conceived in the literal underground of the INDEX:Records basement studio in Berlin, the enigmatic, new-coming “pop” group Downstairs People, is an unlikely collaborative project to be birthed from 2020 – the year of isolation. ‘Underground Pop’ is a collection of aural serotonin hits that touch the feel good receptors, genre hopping between synth-pop, house and neo-RnB. 

The group is conducted and glued together by INDEX:Record's own, Jorge Camacho, the maestro behind his alias, @vasesound. Camacho brings together a gauntlet of Berlin-based artists and INDEX: affiliates, dishing out something fresh after countless late night sessions, only to curate a serendipitously coherent record of left-field pop hits, that arrive just in time for summer.

‘Underground Pop’ by Downstairs People is out 16 April 2021 via single disk 12” LP vinyl, with full album artwork outer-sleeve and black inner-sleeve. A run of 250 copies are distributed worldwide by Rubadub and available to purchase on INDEX:Records' Bandcamp (where a limited amount are offered with a rare edition Downstairs People Zine, designed by @amos-turner).
