Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Perdu aka Alain van der Born returns to Live At Robert Johnson for his second release: On his Illusion Of Choice EP, Perdu drives his sound one notch harder, yet retains his trademark 1980s tinged vibe. Perdu has already secured releases on DGTL Records, Heist and Let’s Play House amongst others, and surely is a keen producer to keep your eyes and ears on.

Casiopepe is the lovechild of two good old friends of Pets and you are welcome to treat yourself to a tasty dish from their recipe book. This is no pasta, mind you, but a zesty mix of Euro-house grooves and addictive hooks, sure to please the synth-loving and the disco-crazed among us.

Although Euphoriac EP is only coming after last year's releases on Jaki Records and Dom Trojga, it actually contains some of Casiopepe's earliest recorded material. Put simply, this is the very music that made everyone around fall in love with the project in the first place, while also winning their pure hardware live show slots at Rex Club and Akasha Festival.

The title track is a masterful statement of purpose, an irresistible piano-led tune that just keeps on building, while Moustache to Moustache displays the duo's love of melody and a knack for quirky drum programming - even more evident in the essential Bonus Beat version. To top things off, disco dons Tiger & Woods deliver an arpeggiated remix of Euphoriac that tones things down a little, while lending it some unmistakable eleganza romana.

SoHaSo gives you five goodies from the Lowlands, to celebrate summer. Something old, something new, something for everyone.

First up is the b-side to the house classic everyone in the Benelux knows: Mary Go Wild. The flip to to this epic club single from 1996 is a stripped down and rather moody groove affair. "It's gonna be allright", Fung-Kee sings over some melancholic strings. Indeed it did.

New material comes from label boss Nuno dos Santos, who makes us look in the mirror of the past. That time when synths like the Alpha Juno ruled the radio waves. Straight up club music for all those cats who shed a tear over classic Ame-records.

Remy Unger from Den Haag is proper old school. Besides a very skilled dj, he's also an experienced producer, with releases on Belgian labels like Global Cuts and Wonka. Westkust brings us back to those days. Sun drenched, piano-driven housemusic with a great punch and beautiful strings.

Bushwalking by Belgium collective Mayuku has a bit of a similar vibe. With it's dubby baslines and echo-ing melodies it sure unlocks the same summer feelings.

Closer “Do We Have A Cosmic Connection” by Far Out Radio Systems is a lifted from his album from 2020. The sun has gone down but the pavement in the city still radiates the heat of the day. That kinda vibe.

Canadian DJ and soon to be producer Donotstealmyname delivered an energetic and powerful set at this summer’s Picnic Electronik Montreal that was foremost the result of growing into the electronic music scene and breathing it for more than five years. As part of the Montreal scene, a city where, according to the artist, Techno is still dominant, Sabrina Richer, Donotstealmyname’s real name, not necessarily represents a counterpart but rather rides her Nu Tech-House-wave with  references to House music as well as 90s infused tracks with a slight touch of trancey and ravey elements. It’s hardly surprising that she names a House-vet and two more tech-oriented artists as her (musical) inspiration or artists she’d like to share the decks with. Furthermore, Sabrina shares insights into the local scene, rolls out the red carpet for some of the crews and clubs in the city, takes us on a journey into her past and what she’s nostalgic about and also how she became involved with electronic music. Additionally Donotstealmyname mixed and compiled the latest edition of our art:cast-series.

Twoonky, the brothers duo from Brescia (Italy) formed by Michele and Simone Bornati, is back on Macadam Mambo for a second album. After their brillantissimo ‘Dezzo’ from 2019, which was well noticed by the underground scene, the new opus ‘Ottico’ won’t leave you static. This is the kind of masterpiece that the more you listen, the more you love. At the opposite of grandiloquent music that would have immediate effect, ‘Ottico’ is much more subtile, surfing on a cool wave of styles, a collage of vibes going from 70’s Kraut to 90’s Trip-Hop, where the analog sounds of guitars, synths, distorded voices, saxo, samples and electronics FX match so well, creating an ensemble in the unique mutant flow of the Twoonky’s that makes it so intemporal and so modern in the meanwile. It’s not about being curious, it’s about being open on crossing boundaries, like they are used to do with their unique place called Spettro in Brescia, where all the avant-garde of the electronic scene is coming to perform. ‘Ottico’ could be a kind of representation of the spirit of Spettro, and possibly one of the most interesting release of 2023. We don’t know why, but it’s true, Italians do it better ☺...

SoHaSo presents a second compilation to celebrate their 11th birthday: Horizons. 11 tracks by current artists on the Utrecht-based record label.
 
11 Horizons will mark the route it is taking. It will be a long and winding road across futuristic dance floors and over soothing electronic fields. The album opens with two blissful chillout tracks. Label stalwart https://soundcloud.com/bas-dobbelaer draws the route for some serious laid-back unwinding. Or should we say rewinding, since the drum machine sometimes seems to move backwards.

Japanese super talent https://soundcloud.com/sooishi dives deep into details with a wonderful dreamy contribution. Ophelia has the same dubby feel as RAMZi but comes with a clear Asian twist. https://soundcloud.com/milio-101 debuts on SoHaSo with a dub-infused and slightly melancholic club track, while https://soundcloud.com/humanspacemachine drags us into the acid vortex.

While Horizons mainly contains new material, SoHaSo also looks back occasionally to give forgotten classics new life. Digital Fingerprint by Biological came out in 1998 on the now forgotten record label EC. More than 25 years later, its bouncy break beats still sound super fresh.

Dutch Techno producer https://soundcloud.com/quincemusic doesn't release much, but when he does it's always dope. Can't Hear You is spot on Detroit electro with a mighty strong punch. Label owner Nuno dos Santos delivers a melancholic beatless clubtool under his https://soundcloud.com/dwaalgast108 moniker. No kicks nor baslines but tons of Detroit-ish soul. 
 
Newcomer Small Solar System Body (https://soundcloud.com/david-hulsken) dives deep into dubtechno with Echoes of Entropy. Next year, SoHaSo releases an album by this talented producer. Dance veteran https://soundcloud.com/remyunger takes the route to motorcity Detroit on Mimpel, a driving techno track with beautiful keys and intricate melodies. 

After two albums, Far Out Radio Systems (https://soundcloud.com/thomasneyens) is ready for more goodies on SoHaSo. This City Is Ill paints a bleak future though, with its strong sentiments and black keys. Closer Rotiriot is by Dutch producer https://soundcloud.com/love-over-entropy, who only used one synthesizer for his upcoming album on SoHaSo, a Yamaha DX11. If you're into early Aphex Twin, you will love this.

Their latest joint EP for Sungate came to life during a creative retreat in a secluded house surrounded by nature. They chose to isolate themselves to fully focus on music, and to unwind. Over the course of their stay, the duo crafted four dynamic tracks that now form the essence of this release.

Through 4 club-focused originals, the duo hone in on precise harmonic stasis, entrancing minimalism, and a resulting groove larger than the sum of its parts.

Deeply tipped for those in search for the essence of techno, the contents of this EP are a surefire floor burner at all hours, on stages of all sizes.
