There's a story to this month's podcast, mixed by taste-making Utrecht DJ and Rhythmic Culture mainstay https://soundcloud.com/akaaskmelater. It goes something like this: Back in March last year, just as clubs were reopening, Askmelater (aka Toine) was invited to play Utrecht's infamous WAS. club night. But unfortunately, they caught covid and were unable to make the date (most of us can relate). Stuck at home, Toine channelled both their fever dreams and their frustration at missing out on a good gig in an excellent set of moody breaks and trippy electronica. Almost a year after reopening, this mix is a welcome reminder of what a joy it is to be back on the dancefloor. And with Askmelater at the helm, you know you're in for something special.

This one has been quite some time in the making. https://soundcloud.com/lunaludmila has been a friend of the label for years now, contributing tracks to compilations, playing at SoHaSo takeovers, hanging out, and basically representing Something Happening Somewhere in the best possible way. Her dubbed-out style and meticulous mixing shines through on this hour-long mix. It’s a thick weave of grooves, pads, and basslines that seems to move ever forward. To make these classic elements feel both fresh and familiar is quite an achievement. Thanks Ashley for taking us on this journey.

A journey. That’s how best to describe the story of ace DJ and https://soundcloud.com/vaultwax boss https://soundcloud.com/beyun303. Her bio spans four countries in three different continents, and a family history tying her to even more diverse locales. A true globetrotting citizen of the world, she has taken in influences from a large variety of sources to inform her wide-ranging musical taste. It’s hardly a coincidence she has dropped anchor at the port of Rotterdam, a place which is defined by its diversity and by welcoming travelers from all over the world. 

A journey is also the best way to describe her addition to our podcast series. A truly eclectic mix of genres, moods and moments, we’re taking from energetic breaks and techno thumping, with hints of rave-synths, acid-basslines and plenty of percussion sprinkled in for good measure. And then, just as you think you’ve figured out what Beyun’s all about in this set, she mixes things up. We won’t spoil the ending, so you’ll just have to wait and hear what’s in store (or skip through, if you’re a party pooper). 

If you know Beyun, you know she’s bringing the goods. If you don’t, it’s about time you got acquainted with this excellent artist. Don’t miss out!

Aaaah yes, https://soundcloud.com/ultrastation. A rare breed of hybrid live/dj techno animal, always ready to destroy a festival stage, club or warehouse with their furious sets. For this edition of the podcast, these label mainstays have put together a scorching mix of deep rolling grooves and live synths. Having well earned their accolades as individual performers (Nuno dos Santos and Cosmic Force), they perfectly complement each other’s skillset, energy and creativity. After their long-awaited SoHaSo debut last year, they are now busy prepping a new EP whilst burning down festival stages left and right on the weekend. Basile is a native of the Leman Lake, in Switzerland. He’s a passionate dedicated to promoting and energizing his region through music. He has undertaken various projects to achieve this goal, one of which is “le Feu au Lac,” a concept aimed at showcasing and supporting the local house music scene. 

For today's mix, the duo weave across the cosmic spectrum in a gripping style.

Uplifting dub-infused club music from Utrecht, where https://soundcloud.com/lunaludmila has been carving out her own electronic micro cosmos over the last two decades. The Dutch dj and producer returns to SoHaSo with the beautiful Hoisin EP, which represents her bright look on how dance floors should move. 

While working on her upcoming live set, this creative process led to a lot of new music, as the four tracks on this EP illustrate. Take for instance title track Hoisin Dreams, which combines sultry strings with breakbeat-infused rhythms and pulsating baselines. Change of Scenery is equally challenging and bright. With its stomping kickdrums it even gives a slight nod to Underworld. On the club friendly Thalia, tribal rhythms take the front stage while closing track Waterkant is clearly a more dreamlike affair, with its dub heavy basslines.
