Our next guest on MusicLab is a true craftsman of sound — Ivan Martinez, a Mexico-based DJ and producer whose connection to electronic music goes back to the late 90s. His story begins in 1998, 
shaped by a fascination with atmospheric sounds, melodic layering, and percussive movement.

By 2000, Ivan became part of the influential Acid collective, making his debut at Club Lumina — where he immediately stood out for his pure vinyl sets, delivering an experience both tactile and immersive.
 This analog devotion earned him early residencies at Life Lounge and Bóveda Electronic, and led to invitations to some of the scene’s most iconic underground raves: Chorcha (1st Anniversary),
 Dreamers, Future Music, and Rave Night among them.

Fast forward to today, and Ivan has evolved into a refined producer with releases on some of the genre’s most respected imprints, including 3rd Avenue, Rynth, Future Avenue, Massive Harmony, Kitchen Recordings,
 Empty World, and BC2. His productions blend progressive, organic, and melodic house into rich sonic journeys that have charted on Beatport and gained support from Release Promo, Progressive Astronaut, and more.

Recent live appearances at venues like Estación C, Just in Case, Chemita Bar, Hakuna, and Sky Garden further prove that Ivan’s sound is equally at home on intimate floors as it is in open-air atmospheres.

Dubøka Records – one of the oldest and coolest families in the underground scene – joins forces with us for a release that feels as natural as it is exciting. Our musical styles not only align, but many of our artists have released on both labels over the years. This project is a celebration of that shared history, built on mutual respect and a love for timeless grooves.

After years of supporting each other from afar, we decided to go arms-in-arms and create something special – together. And to make it even more meaningful, we're meeting this summer in the beautiful city of Barcelona, Spain, the place that also inspired the album cover.

Episode 021 – Pico Boulevard [South Wales, UK]

Since 1995, music has been a lifelong journey for Pico Boulevard, a progressive trance producer from South Wales, UK. What began as self-taught experimentation in FL Studio evolved into a full-fledged passion, eventually leading him to earn a degree in Sound Engineering and a master’s in Music Production and Engineering, with a specialization in Spatial Audio.

After a reflective hiatus in his mid-twenties, Pico returned with renewed clarity and intent. His debut releases on JOOF Recordings — including "We’re All the Same" and "Bandersnatch" — marked a powerful re-entry into the scene. His hypnotic and emotionally charged sound quickly earned recognition and support from legendary artists like John 00 Fleming, Paul Van Dyk, Solarstone, Ferry Tayle, and Suzy Solar.

Notable tracks such as "Another Time" (featured on Pure Trance Vol. 9), "Close Your Eyes", "Oblivion", "Xenomorph", "The Time Tripper", and "Retroplex" reflect Pico’s deep-rooted philosophy: that every track is less a performance and more a personal sonic journal.

His recent collaboration with Malaysian artist Su San on "The Sun" introduced a fresh blend of Progressive House and Deep Trance, offering a refined soundscape at 124 BPM. Beyond his studio work, Pico co-hosts Sound Escape Radio with Sean Furlong, curating the DEEP mix series — an introspective sonic journey that values emotional resonance over formulaic presentation.

Recent standout releases like "Everybody’s Nobody" on Forescape Digital and "Entheogen" (with Deestopia, released on JOOF Recordings) showcase his affinity for textured atmospheres and cinematic depth, continuing his mission to push the boundaries of Progressive and Trance sounds.
