2021 is a time when Verandan will issue single tracks throughout the year. Following January’s ‘Hideaway’ single Verandan’s next single is ‘Open Sea’ (out 30th April 2020 via Soliti.) Chief Verandan Ville Hopponen tells us “The song is based on an idea from a few years ago and has gone through a few incarnations before it found its final form.”

Ville expands on the song's themes : “The song depicts a kind of end-of-summer feeling where the protagonists have grown tired of their jobs and head out to sea without any particular destination. If pressed, the song might be viewed as a kind of work critique.”

KO:MI releases new song  “Flooding, No Rain”
First new KO:MI material since last year’s We Said We Didn’t Know but We Knew album.
KO:MI releases “Flooding, No Rain” on the 23rd April 2021 via Soliti.
Of the new song Sanna Komi (KO:MI) explains "I originally wrote this song for the Acoustic Guitar Project, in which you're given an acoustic guitar, a recording device and a week to write a song and record it in a single take. The format is really inspiring and I ended up liking this song so much that I wanted to do a studio version of it, still keeping to the minimalistic quality of the original. I wrote it just before the release of my We Said We Didn't Know but We Knew album in the end of last year, and thematically it is a continuation of that album. It is a song about the fragile materiality of life as we know it on Earth and the absurdity of things like owning a piece of a planet. What does that even mean? The consequences: climate change, biodiversity loss, extreme weather, are all happening in front of our eyes."

Pintandwefall reveal details of their new album, Seventh Baby, which arrives via Soliti on the 25th February 2022. 
Pintandwefall tells us of Seventh Baby "We started sending each other demos after the pandemic started and our previous album tour got cut short, and a lot of the songs coincidentally dealt with different aspects of everyday life with an absurd twist to them. We recorded the album within a 6-day period during the hottest days of early July, and it ended up becoming more guitar-driven than our previous albums, with some soft shoegaze moods in the mix. We were and are especially hyped about working with Liisa Tani, aka Sir Liselot, on this album, and her energy and unique touch can be heard throughout the songs. Also, it was about time to have an all female panel in the studio! We hope you will love listening to Seventh Baby as much as we loved making it <3"

Cute Pint tells us of  “Aihai” : “The song is about missing someone a lot, and wanting to ask them over because it’s been so long since you’ve seen them or anyone really, but you know you get all babbly and annoying when you’re excited or have been by yourself for too long so now you’re worried if they come over you’ll just ruin it somehow and they never want to spend time with you ever again.”

RULES return with new song “The Ghost”, inspired by Henry James’s ’s Turn of the Screw
“The song images the hostility between two clashing views. The ghost has returned to claim what is theirs while there’s already a new person in their place with an equal claim. The electricity of the situation where the opposers feel they’re equally right is reflected in the suspense of the music.” RULES tell us.  “The Ghost” is released via Soliti on the 28th January 2022.

We can be thankful that we live in a time when Pintandwefall is a going concern. Last month the band returned with the well received single ‘Aihai’ - the first call to arms for forthcoming album Seventh Baby. Today (4th Feb.) they unveil the latest morsel from the long player, the wonderfully intimate melodicism of “Last Minutes” This song is very personal and it deals with some emotional laws. Pintandwefall : Last Minutes

The poet Francis North and the Finnish post-rock band Ghosts on TV formed an interesting union last fall. North and visual artist Anna Blom released their first book titled “ENTROPY” in September 2021. They held a launch party at the sold out Music Theatre Kapsäkki in Helsinki, where Francis North recited the whole long poem live from start to finish. He was accompanied by Ghosts on TV, who played new material inspired by the book during the show.
This concert was recorded and the live album / audio book “ENTROPY (Live At The Music Theatre Kapsäkki)” was born. ENTROPY is a study of an ancient holiness, of a prophet, because the time of mythologies is not over yet. The album is released via Soliti Records.

Big Wave Riders: Crest Of A Wave

”Hideaway” will be a joint release by Soliti and the american indie pop label Cloudberry records.  Official release digitally on Friday 29.1. via Soliti! 7” (Hideaway+Pink Clouds) coming out on American label Cloudberry February 20th!

This year has seen Verandan write many new songs but for obvious reasons not doing concerts. This is the first single release in 2021 and will be joined by more singles in 2021. It will also be the first time Verandan is released on vinyl. 

One of the themes of the song is the ambivalence of relating to the uncertain future of the planet, when making plans and ”playing it safe” sometimes can feel pointless. As the old ways of doing things don’t really work anymore it could even feel like an opportunity to do things in a completely new way, though I wouldn’t count on that happening anytime soon.
