Petrol Blue

The first bit of evidence of the collaboration between Crimson ProjeKct/Adrian Belew Power Trio bassist Julie Slick and British bass experimenter Steve Lawson. They recorded and gigged together in April 20014, along with drummer and guitarist Andy Edwards. Watch for more soon! 

This duo track was recorded in a session at Kidderminster College, and has Julie's bass sounding almost like a mellotron, playing the arpeggiated figures all the way through, with Steve playing the melody at the start, and the moving bassline later one, as well as the layers and then the pad part right at the end…

Julie Slick and Steve Lawson - first duet (rough mix)

The first thing from my first duo gig with Andy Edwards, on Dec 28th 2013. He's on electronic drums and a bit of acoustic guitar at the end. I'm on bass and weirdness. It's a nice noise, I hope you'll agree. 

This gig was the launch pad for a lot of projects that are happening, or will soon happen… Good times :)

Steve Lawson/Andy Edwards - Birthday

The 2nd track from our first gig together at Tower Of Song in Birmingham. This followed straight on from the first track that's here on Soundcloud (add about 10 seconds of applause between the two tracks if you want to recreate the effect) - I think I'm getting closer with this mix to recreating the sound-world of the gig itself. It's a fun challenge!

An ambient improvisation on solo fretless bass (5-string), using three Source Audio Soundblox2 pedals: Manta bass filter, Multiwave bass distortion, and Dimension reverb. Lightly edited in Reaper.

Orion

A short improvisation on a Sigma (5-string EADGC fretted) acoustic bass, plus various effects. I was experimenting with adding a loop while editing in Reaper (by taking a short section of the solo and looping it).
