Moodfamily’s seventh instalment might just sound as lucky as the number predicts. Harted releases his 'Wander EP' and manages to define his sound from the get go. His debut fluently rolls through your neighbourhood with the windows down, turning heads as he passes by, sounding smooth yet bumpy and captivating at the same time. Although the EP sounds ahead of its time, Harted stays - somewhat - true to his history in the harder genres, yet with a firm look forward.

MF007 brings 3 original cuts to the table along with 2 remixes courtesy of label friend AMyn and Laut & Luise’s Nutia, both delivering a unique take on the originals. AMyn takes his walk off the beaten track, offering a peek at his upcoming album on Moodfamily. At the same time Nutia shows his unique style, dropping a steady groove while at the same time revealing all the subtleties hidden within.

Inspired by their world travels, and a desire to bring back a piece of every musical culture they encounter, KMLN 's 2nd release on Sol*Selectas, the "Sabilu EP" is 2 original tracks written and recorded in Indonesia, and Mexico.  "Sabilu" features the vocals of Javanese jazz singer Mian Meuthia, now living in Bali, and original field recordings of jewelry, sticks, shakers, and traditional Gamelon music. The Indonesian lyrics speak about the love that exists in all humans, and that even though we all strive to be different, we are one in the same. "Gitamato" is a reinterpretation of the roots of Flamenco music, historically imported by the Spanish into Mexico. The spirit of gypsy wanderers is still alive and strong felt in Mexico, particularly in the town of Tulum - where a genuine sense of ancient magic can literally be felt in the air. In this song KMLN has recorded live the guitars, claps, shakers, synths, snares, and bell sounds. For the remix of "Sabilu", we have enlisted the stellar work of Mira & Christopher Schwarzwalder from Berlin, whose residencies at Bar 25, and now Katerblau, have made them underground legends. Their remix strips back the original, taking us on a slower even deeper hypnotic journey - while retaining the original message of human love and respect for all, within the lyrics. The final remix of "Sabilu" comes from new producer Schon Long, whose entry into our Shambhala Music Festival /  Sol Selectas remix competition earlier this summer, was the stand out winner. Creatively playing on the pitch of the vocals, and adding the grooviest bass line we've heard in a long time, his remix submission was hands down the victor out of over 50 entries. 
The artwork by Helia Jamali captures the feminine energy and message of oneness in "Sabilu", represented here by the deep red orange Indonesian flower with goddesses dancing around its essence.

A Mirror for the Sun is a 14-track cycle of tempos, moods, and hums exploring different facets of a softly solar energy. The compilation departs from the Souq’s signature sound, infusing it with a rotation of new elements. Niki Sadeki’s curation brings more of an uncanny Berlin-style voltage to the label’s earthy tradition, shaped by her own learned perception of deep house. The result is a cosmic and crunchy experimental blend, with mingling moments of downbeat drama and upbeat glow.

When seen through a mirror, the sun’s light only reflects fragments of a fuller picture. Mirror for the Sun echoes this sentiment. Each track contributes an angle to an overall picture of sentience and connection.

We couldn’t think of a more suited selector than Vancouver based Niki Sadeki, whose vision has refracted across an impressive stream of radio shows, guest mixes, and podcasts over the years. Niki’s ability to musically embark a living-room or a car ride as much as she can a dance-floor is a quality we prize right now more than ever.

This compilation will return annually to Souq, shedding its skin and renewing itself along the way.

Souq Records have built their identity in inviting listeners to travel across cultures, instruments and influences. This time around, the experience is more of a mind trip than a geographical one – we hope you enjoy this new phase just as much.

Sol Selectas welcomes Russian artist Zuma Dionys back to the label, for his first solo EP, featuring 2 original tracks, and remixes by German Brigante and KEENE.

Zuma’s music is a balance between the ancient history of ethnic instruments, combined with the futuristic sound of synthesizers and drum machines, and together, the sonic textures of both past and present, tell us his story.
“Busurman” translates to foreigner. Like a stranger from the future, possessing technology light years ahead of the people of our time, he enters our tribe disrupting what we know to be true. The accordion and synthesizer sounds represent the dialogue between this foreigner, and the leader of the modern tribe. “Though the Valley” is a passage through mountainous desert dunes; a relaxing adventure which allows us time to soak in the beautiful landscape.

Both remixers appear on Sol Selectas for their first time, and propel the songs in exciting new directions. Spanish producer German Brigante takes a deeper pitched down approach on “Busurman”, adding a hypnotic bass line, deep pads, and emphasizing the vocals chants. KEENE, a Panamanian duo residing in Berlin, turn “Through The Valley” into an afro-house explosion, accelerating the energy level with exciting build ups and ethereal percussion.

The artwork by Helia Jamali symbolizes the journey, awakened by the spirit animal guiding our path, through the arches of time and space.
