Serotonin Records’ epic odyssey to bring endless funk to the world has again found a deep vain of grooves to mine. 
 
Having all the features of a Serotonin classic, SER024 Neurotic Drum Band - The Last Parabola / Ulysses - Palefinger is a 3-track split EP with loops/locked-grooves on the vinyl. 
 
Neurotic Drum Band’s Last Parabola arcs upwards from an earthly base of machine funk and launches through the atmospheric layers to stellar reaches of the cosmic void (well, as far into the cosmic void that was reachable from the comfort and safety of their music studio/living room couch, at any rate). 
 
Ulysses provides two perspicacious* takes on the Serotonin vibe.  Shiny Destruction drives and drifts, balancing melancholy and random angular twists. The airtight yet sultry groove of Palefinger slides along swiftly with caustic undertones. *having a ready insight into and understanding of things. 
 
 
As the Neurotic Drum Band, veteran producers Elliot Taub aka Ulysses and John Selway combine their formidable talents to keep dance music fun, mixing elements of classic House, Disco, Techno, Electro and random audio weirdness into a genre-defying mish-mash that excites the ears and tickles the fancy. 

When it comes to new music from Ulysses, you never know what you're going to get. His productions span across genres. His love of obscure Disco and Techno led to experiments in the studio, toying with disparate sounds such as noise, pop, rock-n-roll, ambient, reggae, blues, funk, electro, new wave and hard techno, with every release delivering an exciting musical surprise. An essential pioneer of the late-‘90s electro scene in New York, Ulysses threw some of the biggest large-scale electro parties with legends such as Alexander Robotnick and Arthur Baker, as well as stars like I-f, Adult, and Miss Kittin and the Hacker.  Over the span of his eclectic discography, this Brooklyn-based DJ and music producer has collaborated with many including Thugfucker’s Holmar Filipsson as Filipsson & Ulysses and of course with John Selway in the somewhat prolific Neurotic Drum Band.

Apparition delivers the kind of trademark Technobreaks, Maschinen Musik has become famous for. Heavy kick drums are backed by deep-driving basslines, woven into acid chirps, menacing synth lines, and pads. Full of twists and edits, the track hammers to an epic breakdown, just to pick up again and send the listener into the second round of dancefloor mayhem. Forge deploys and equally heavy framework but with a much more stripped down, hypnotizing character. A relentlessly grooving beat, carried by a heavy bass foundation, and embedded in ever changing drones and atmospheres, sets the stage for pulsating pads and minimal bleeps and klonks. Industrial Electro in essence, equally suited for listening as for the deeper dancefloors. Recommended.

Legend mode has been switched on for Bass Agenda Recordings’ 90th release, with UMEK’s Electro alias Zeta Reticula bringing his distinctive floor filling sound on vinyl and digital formats. In his own words ‘I think this is the best Zeta Electro I have made since EP 2 A1’.

For those who need telling, track A1 on his infamous EP 2 on Billy Nasty’s equally infamous Electrix label remains one of the genres benchmark tracks for high energy, techno tinged Electro. A classic, and to say this is his best work since is quite a statement – especially given the high quality of his releases in general and particularly in the last couple years when this alias came back with a vengeance.

Already receiving early support from Dave Clarke on his mighty Whitenoise show, these four new tracks are ‘killers’, ‘bombs’, ‘fire’, ‘heaters’, and all the other words Electro heads reserve for the good stuff. These are the kind of tracks that unlock that extra energy reserve a weary raver finds when they hear them. Driving, powerful rhythms and infectious hooks from start to finish. Gear changing Electro music at it’s best.

Kretz Profile : 
Kretz, born in Stockholm and raised on the island of limestone (Gotland) has a long history in the music industry. Started off making music on the C64, Atari and Amiga for various hacker / cracker / demoscene groups, the spark of electronic music was born. I have been involved with a lot of record labels / companies around the world (Svek, Loop records, Skint Records, Good looking, Mo’wax, React, Paper Recordings, Why Not, Reco-Nice, Plump House, Sub-Stance to name a few) in business or production. Production wise I have done everything from deep underground techno, acid jazz, trip-hop to ex hippies playing the sitar. Schooled on the analog scene with classic analog waveform creation to reel to reel recording. 
I have a past as a record company A&R and as a label manager. With a heart for the electronic music i now release under 3 different names: Anode, Rex 42 and finally Kretz.

For over a decade, Jason Amm’s work as Solvent has neatly defied categorization. His music is too sweetly melodic for techno or acid, his compositions too fiendishly detailed for synth-pop. He was too steeped in the sounds of the ‘80s to participate in the incipient IDM scene; he was briefly lumped in with the short-lived electroclash movement, only to outlive it; he’s played “minimal wave” parties and goth clubs, indie-rock shows and techno all-nighters. But even as words fail in the face of Solvent’s music, its pleasures are anything but elusive.

Today, Zimbabwe-born Jason Amm lives in Toronto, ON, where he spends his time obsessively grappling with an outsized collection of vintage analog synthesizers, samplers, and sequencers. Solvent first materialized in 1997 with a string of singles and full-lengths (1998’s Solvent, 1999’s Solvently One Listens) on Amm’s own Suction Records, the Toronto-based label he founded with Lowfish’s Gregory DeRocher. The watershed release Solvent City (2001) on Berlin-based Morr Music introduced Amm’s sound to a wider audience, and Apples &amp; Synthesizers (2004) marked Solvent’s move to Ghostly International. Along with notable remixes of artists including Soft Cell, Alter Ego, and Adult., Solvent tracks have appeared on high-profile DJ mixes and seminal compilations.

Solvent’s most recent record on Ghostly International, 2010?s Subject to Shift, marks a turn for the darker as Amm embraces his love of the abrasive sounds of acid and industrial. And while a sinister tone or two now dances among Solvent’s sparkling hooks and bright streaks of synthesizer, and while Amm’s music drifts even further from accepted genre-specific reference points, Solvent’s sound has only deepened. After more than ten years of composing love songs for robots, Amm sounds like nothing more than himself.
