Established in Australia and deeply influenced by European sounds, the Metapattern project is an ambitious idea to explore and manipulate the vast diversity of sound in the techno genre and its closest relatives. Soma drop Volume 5 of the Collective Process series that brings together some of the best up and coming producers in the scene right now. On the fifth instalment, we welcome a global roster consisting of Dave Wincent, Minor Dott, R.M.K & SlugoS.

The deep and tripped out Measure Of Dispersion from Dave Wincent opens the EP with perfectly sculpted soundscapes, spacious percussion and a driving beat. Next up, Colombia’s Minor Dott picks up the pace with the thunderous rave infected track Prisoner Of Nightmares that flexes it’s muscles throughout. R.M.K delivers a more funked up, old school affair with Waveforms which utilises hypnotic vocal samples against bouncing, 909 percussion. SlugoS closes the EP on devastating form with the HI-NRG track, Sunburn. Cascading drums and smashing percussive workouts blend perfectly with well crafted synth stab, lifting the track higher.

Hailing from London, R.M.K is an exciting new project by Fossil Archive label head Roberto. It represents a faster and more intense take on his unique brand of Techno.

He utilises his knowledge and past experiences, which include regularly playing at Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, as well as fabric in London, to develop his individual sound.

During his 20+ year career in music, he has formed friendships and worked in partnership with other respected artists such as Trevino (Marcus Intalex), Jamie Anderson, Robert Owens, Goldie and Nastia.

Although the focus is always on the very heart of the most raucous of raves, R.M.K never shies away from groove and funk. This is conveyed in a live Show that utilises classic hardware from the golden age of UK Rave.

On its 46th release, MindTrip welcomes two substantial artists from Sweden on a collaborative 4-track EP. Matthias Fridell and Alexander Johansson are standalone producers but their common ideas and vision brought them together on various shared releases in the last couple of years. The two combined push their boundaries while squeezing their 909 sounds and short synth loops with a clear '90s flavor. Here's what they say about their ''Datamaskin'':
''The tracks came together based on the limitation to use only a Dreadbox Erebus synth as the main element for playing sequences, and building drums, assisting synths & rhythmic patterns around those sequences.
Since the Erebus is fully analog with no way of saving your patches, the limitations placed on you force you to come up with ideas and create something during that current session and capture it. That's the core and foundation of the tracks residing on this release.
The only time post-editing was used was for "Debil" where some hi-hats were added afterward.''

The back2back mix was recorded live at Fossil Archive Presents at The Glove that Fits in London. This is organised once a month on a Sunday evening by Roberto R.M.K, and it was a truly special one. 

Even though they had never played together previously, the blend of styles felt like they’d been doing it for years. It was a truly magical experience for everyone involved, which was aided by the lack of air conditioning which had broken the day before. The heat and music were very intense which resulted in everyone sweating like crazy! Hopefully this will be the first of many b2b’s they play.

Cables For Hair

Roberto (real name: Rob Kirkaldy) is a London based Techno producer, DJ and Remixer. Considered to be one of the most exciting new UK Techno artists in recent years, he combines influences from Detroit and Amsterdam to create his own sound unique to the UK.

As a DJ, he brings a special energy to the dance floor that is the product of many years of dedication to the craft. Never one to let an audience get bored, his sets explore many angles of techno, which has seen him play at some of the most well respected clubs around the world, including fabric in London and both Tresor and Berghain in Berlin. His DJ skills have also made him a popular choice for podcasters, having been called upon to deliver mixes for esteemed shows like the CLR Podcast, Slam Radio and Electric Deluxe.

With an already impressive discography, Roberto has built his production credits with EPs on the likes of Rekids, Fachwerk, ARTS, Solar Phenomena and Obscura, as well as a host of remixes for artists like Jamie Anderson, Roberto Clementi, DJ Rolando and Shinedoe. His own tracks have been remixed by artists such as Steve Rachmad (Sterac), Mike Dehnert, Trevino and Peverelist.

At the beginning of 2015, Roberto launched his own Fossil Archive label. Predominantly a vinyl label (though releases are also available digitally), the ethos of the imprint is that it must not compromise on the sound.

As Roberto said in a recent interview with Data Transmission: “I love the fact that you can hold a piece of music in your hands. They are art pieces in their own right. Music is the product of many years of development; much like a fossil that can be buried deep underground for millions of years, until it is discovered. I wanted to ensure the music is of the highest quality, which means not rushing things.”
