Alexander Kulikov returns to @soma Records with October Dreams Part 2, a deeply emotive second chapter that expands on the sonic world he introduced with last year’s release. Where its predecessor set the tone, this new installment dives further inward—unfolding a richer, more immersive exploration of Kulikov’s ethereal and atmospheric sound design.

October Dreams Part 2 is defined by restraint and emotion. Weightless pads, fragile melodies, and slowly evolving textures drift through shadow and light, creating a sense of quiet intensity that lingers long after the final note. It’s music shaped by space and feeling—introspective, cinematic, and unmistakably personal.

The release is complemented by two carefully chosen remixes that reframe Kulikov’s material from distinct perspectives. Berlin’s @apresberlin delivers a deep, club-focused interpretation, grounding the atmosphere in subtle propulsion and late-night energy, while Bastian Balders takes a darker path, twisting the source material into a more ominous, brooding form that leans into tension and mood.

Together, October Dreams Part 2 stands as a refined statement of artistic growth—an evocative continuation that reinforces Alexander Kulikov’s place within Soma Records’ forward-thinking catalogue.

On 2S, Ilya Gurin-Babayeu consolidates the defining elements of his earlier releases into a new four-track project. Built on his signature sample-driven approach, the EP weaves polyrhythmic, tribal-leaning percussion with a grounded, classic sense of techno groove, balancing textural detail with functional momentum. Structured as a four-track release split into two paired movements, 2S explores variation through restraint: each pair unfolds different perspectives on the same underlying arrangement and sample palette.

Guided by intuition, 2S subtly repositions techno as a rhythmic framework open to wider interpretation.

One final whip from the tail end, ‘Mezzema’ rings in for a final bout with those signature tight punchy kicks still ever riding. Crumbling stairs unfurl beneath your feet as the unseen beckons you forth into the final chamber. Low rolling toms form a naughty groove beneath the frenetic, mesmerising tones that tiptoe throughout. High end percussion is stripped right back in place of a deathly radioactive crackle, just as it seems that all light is sucked into the void, the melodic reprise resonates out into an open field of some space-facing goodness before a sharp drop back into the darkness for the last leg of this ravers fever dream.

Toobris’ lurky atmospheres and rhythmic cadence are present throughout as he grows his own breed of high end productions whilst paying homage to the overarching sonic legacy of the techno continuum. Here we see him hit his stride with meticulous sound design in a substantial package of focused productions, further demonstrating his attention to detail and control over the motions of the dance.

“Locked” opens the EP with a distorted, tension-building intro that gradually settles into an eerie groove. From there, “Arson Paradox” strips things back into a minimal, functional tool, while “Arboreal” introduces a more atmospheric direction — playful tribal noises shaping its hypnotic atmo-groove. “She Would Dance To This (Club Mix)” marks the emotional peak of the record, a beautifully charged cut carrying an intimate but powerful club energy.

The intensity continues with “Bear Paws”, a hook-driven moment for a full-room shake, before “Evolutionary Pressure” shifts toward chopped vocal fragments and a tightly wound hypnotic flow. Following on from the dark intensity of Hash Bar Loops, Deepchord has continued to innovate and diversify his output. Traces of the previous album remain on this record but here, there is a lighter more ethereal feel.

Deepchord’s characteristic manipulation of space and time is still intact and is an integral part of Sommer’s soundscape. Modulating textures, sliding tempos, shifting rhythmic elements, and electroacoustics create a constantly evolving, vaporous sonic-tapestry.

Rich field recordings and proprietary processing methods (developed over 20 years of making such recordings) provide an impactful, living, organic element with flecks of percussion and bass pulsing from the soundfield. Atmospheric warmth and engrossing layers are expertly woven, many of the source-recordings were made on a beach near the artist’s home. Wind chimes, circulating air, and a marine sounds give this album a distinct identity rarely experienced in the sphere of digital music. A rare amalgamation of deep organic-atmospherics and dance music. A living breathing organism, quite unlike anything else. Light and aquatic feeling, with a few darker introspective moments later in the album, but it never gets foreboding or overly heavy. The overall mood here is evocative of warm summer evenings, and is equally effective on a PA with a crowd, as it is on the beachside with headphones alone. 

An August release date coincides perfectly with the album’s themes and will be a powerful addition when played out over the summer and on into the autumn as part of Deepchord’s thoughtful, expansive sets, which should be plentiful in the coming months.
